Boy you’re set for disappointment. Russia rejected Trumps big plan to stop the war in 24 hours the moment he got in and it’s just been announced by Trumps team that they’re revising 24 hours to several months and will continue to fund Ukraine in that timeframe.

Said it already but it’s got all the hallmarks of Nixon pledging to end the war in Vietnam only to escalate spending on it the moment he got in.

You say that like he hasn't already had a go at being president. He said he'd build a wall and Mexico would pay for it, the wall wasn't built and Mexico didn't pay anything. He said he'd repeal 'Obamacare' and replace it with something better, he didn't repeal it and even in 2024 just said he had 'concepts' of a healthcare plan. He predicted that Biden would crash the stock market, the stock market ended up doing better.

We could go on. What is interesting though is that some of Biden's measures will start to reap benefits during Trump's term. If he's smart, he won't repeal them and will take the credit for them.

Can’t help but think Trump is full of bluster. I wouldn’t be surprised IF all the talk of tariffs never happened. Remember the beautiful wall he was going to build last time (no mention of a wall this campaign, wonder why?) only for it to turn out Obama built more miles of wall in his last 12 months in office than Trump did in his entire term (maybe that’s why).

Trump is like Alan Partridge, he has a dictaphone full of “great” ideas but no idea how to implement them. Just look at his business career. A series of failures, from stakes to travel airlines. You’re talking about a guy who can bankrupt casinos, a business model where people literally give you cash and you don’t give it back. The only success he’s ever had is the business he inherited from his father. And even then he’s still managed to go personally bankrupt on more than one occasion. If his dad hadn’t left him asset rich meaning that he had the privilege of starting again and again he’d be living in a trailer park now.

everything’s one big negotiation with Trump so I’d imagine tariffs won’t be as brutal, at least with those who he considers allies, but he’ll want/get something in return.

let’s hope so anyway, as I’d imagine we’ll all see a bump up in inflation if he goes ahead with initial proposals. Chinas deflation might help offset some of this though

I think it’s more a case of everything is over promised and over stated with Trump. By negotiating what you really mean is climb down from an unachievable position in the. The wall being the glaring obvious case. For all his filibustering he achieved less than the previous administration managed in their twilight year.

Watching the confirmation hearings for Pete Hegseth, two things are abundantly clear:

1 - Hegseth is completely unqualified for the job, sounds like he has all kinds of skeletons in his closets which America’s enemies will look to exploit, and his refusal to defend international norms on torture would make the world a more dangerous place for American and British soldiers

2 - There doesn’t appear to be a Democratic senator on the committee under the age of 80 or capable of completing a sentence in one go. I have no idea how they expect young people to rally behind them.

In truth he’s already had half of the US powerbrokers simping up to Mar-a-Largo.

Biden, I’m afraid, is only semi-conscious nowadays

How long to you reckon a ceasefire takes to negotiate? More or less time than it takes to say “Pay me £1m or I’ll tax the shit out of your company”?

Anything from 1 minute or 100 years.

“let’s both stop shooting and have a chat because Trump is unhinged and may blow us all up” is a perfectly good place to start.

A ceasefire and a peace deal are two different things. The latter, naturally, takes longer.

Why would Israel agree to a ceasefire because a guy who supports them 100% is about to be elected?
