I’m not perplexed that he won. Dismayed yes, but think I understand why.

Not for the reasons Bill Maher or Piers Morgan claim he did either. Donald Trump is the only president in the history of the office to try and overturn an election, and he did so through violent as well as non violent means. Even if you fully agree with his politics, you can’t seriously argue that he should have been allowed to run again.

He should be in prison.

With his pardon of son Hunter, Joe Biden delivers a heartfelt hypocrisy

President and supporters argue Hunter Biden would never have been charged if not for his name. But this exercise of power also looks like validation of Trump
www.theguardian.com

I am not surprised at all that Hunter has been pardoned. No one I know was expecting him to spend a day in jail.

Just to be clear he did not pardon him for the 2 crimes he was awaiting sentencing on, he pardoned him for everything.

Pardoned for those crimes he's pled guilty to. He better not be hiding anything else. Sure Trump's prosecutors will be seeing what else they can find

No he was pardoned for everything between the dates.

Rep. Greg Stanton (D., Ariz.) said, “I respect President Biden, but I think he got this one wrong. This wasn’t a politically motivated prosecution. Hunter committed felonies, and was convicted by a jury of his peers.

C'mon @Como and @SIR ERNIE, dead simple question, are you against presidential pardons or not?

I'd hate for you to be wrongly thought of as hypocrites. Gosh would that be embarrassing.

Set the record straight, eh. It's a really easy question...

Excellent. So you'll clearly be against Trump pardoning people for far worse gun offences and corruption than Hunter Biden has committed then, presumably?

(There's a handy list here, if you've forgotten some of them...)

Trump pardons Steve Bannon along with dozens of others in final hours in office

Bannon, Trump's former chief strategist, was charged with defrauding hundreds of thousands of donors to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

For those offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024, including but not limited to all offenses charged or prosecuted (including any that have resulted in convictions) by Special Counsel David C. Getting upset about this is a bit ironic given that an actual convict will be in office in a few months.

Presidential pardons are fine so long as there is no conflict of interests so friends or family would be off limits
It is just bizarre in this day and age that it means the president and their family are above the law

Why?

It’s almost as bizarre as having gun laws for sun machine guns that were put in place when people had simple pistols or rifles

Much like the assisted dying debate or the death penalty we need grown up conversations to agree

Even if he is benevolent, the far right will control the SC, both sections of Congress and the presidency. Democrats need to win quite a few races in 2026 to wrest some control back.

At least we know if you lie on your Gun application you will be pardoned.

Not sure how the Dems will now play this.

BTW to buy a 6 pack of shandly your Drivers License will be swiped, to vote not needed as that would be racist.

Surely the primary reason to swipe for voting would be age verification. That’s entirely reasonable.

Trying to argue it would be racist is over sensitive woke bollocks. Americans really are stupid.

Well you're going to have a lot to complain about in a month or two. Not counting the pardons Trump gave in his first term.

I fundamentally disagree with Biden's decision, but I think he was caught between a rock and a hard place. I think he could see that his son could be at the mercy of Trump and his cronies in the judicial system and get absolutely shanked, so wanted to protect his son from what would likely be disproportionate punishment.

However, he does deserve some punishment and the decision to pardon him has basically just given Trump open season to do the same, but on a far larger scale, and every time just shout 'Biden'.

It was a lesser of two evils and I think he's chosen the wrong one because his desire to protect his son has come before the danger he has put the whole country in by doing so.

“Deserves some punishment”.

Not necessarily.

Deserves thorough, open, transparent investigation.

If there’s only minor stuff - that’s that.

But come on, even the most deranged Democrat apologists on here know that there’s some seriously dodgy stuff that’d be uncovered.

Their response: “dribble dribble BuT TrUMp…”

Moonbats.
