This is my frustration with Trumps isolationist. So much of the development we have seen is due to post WW2 cooperation.

Unfortunately most countries don’t play by that rule. Certainly a Trumpian USA won’t.

I still don’t see why that would bother me as - according to the bar set on educated people - I am one of those people. I even went to the same university establishment as the self proclaimed genius from the village of Bedworth.

Just waking up here in SW Florida.
Clear lesson is ignore the electorate's concerns about immigration at your peril.
Massive shift to Trump by African American and Latino men was pivotal.
15m illegals coming into the country, driving down wages and taking their jobs was the reason.
Trump recognised it. Dems thought they could ignore it.

Governments in this era cannot or will not help and electorates now seem to like fascists and dog whistlers instead of problem solvers. So rather than wait for such people to get elected and society to change I should just look out for number one.

Much the same reasons we kicked out the tories. Inflation (cost of living) and immigration being out of control.

Harris is the sitting VP and failed to say what

Mate I’m the only liberal in a friendship group that’s left wing is somewhere in Reform territory. I’m the only Remainer in the village and my friends are mostly agency workers or unemployed. I’m also the only one with a degree bar my best mate. Just to get that out while we’re playing poor person Top Trumps.

What I’ve seen since the advent of social media is a massive rise in conspiracy and tabloid nonsense. And a refusal to talk about it with anyone who doesn’t agree. Everything is “immigrants get a free house and a free car I saw it on Facebook” and let’s be honest it’s the only issue that’s ever raised generally. There are genuine concerns around social cohesion and the like wrapped up in there, but mostly it’s no deeper than a boomer Facebook meme about how homeless veterans deserve more than illegal immigrants that falls apart on the slightest questioning.

I love these people, but their ability to parse information is not great. One of my mates keeps getting scammed on WhatsApp by fake women, another believes literally everything they read online, a third spent lockdown arguing with nurses that Covid didn’t exist cos he read it online

None of them are right wing in the classic sense BTW. “Traditional Labour voters” is what you’d have called them in the 90s. They want tax on the rich, investment in public services, crack down on big business. They just also want no brown people about and that’s the driving force above all else.

Call it what you want but there’s a serious problem with people with poor information literacy being exposed to the internet. It happens on the left too, a hippy girl I know is a great example, but it’s far far more prevalent on the anti immigration right.

Hardly. There are/will be plenty of people in society who could really benefit from your help, and likely didn't vote for politicians whose policies are making their lives harder. Lending yourself to them doesn't make you gullible or naive.

It’s funny, I said at the start of the night Kamala was a terrible candidate and was shot down immediately.

At the end of the night, she’s all but being sweep in the swing states, avoided a concession speech, and democrats are attacking her campaign strategy i.e. focusing solely on Trump at the expense of her outlining her vision for the US.

The US is a two party state, most voters are voting on their values and principles rather than the individual candidate.

Because he offers a solution, rather than just more of the same shit.

He consistently asked voters "are you better off today than you were 4 years ago?"

And the answer was a resounding no.

So that was it, a very simple question, and a very simple campaign. Job done.

Does the data actually back that up though? Not looked in depth but the few things I have seen show that most metrics have improved under Biden.

If that's not correct then fair enough but if its true how do you get around the issue of people voting based on vibes rather than facts?

From the Economist - notorious left wing rag

“Some comeback stories are the stuff of political legend. Donald Trump, a convicted felon who sought to subvert the 2020 presidential election, is poised to return to the White House. He will be the oldest man ever to be elected president in America.”

Whatever anyone concerns about immigration, elites, inflation etc I don’t know how any reasonable person can get around the points above. It’s like choosing Rose West as a babysitter because you’re annoyed people who have done an NVQ in childcare.

I've no idea on the cost of things in American shops, but im sure the voters there do.
When Trump asked them if they are better off now than 4 years ago, they answered no.

That is surely the only data that matters, and the only matrix that can be trusted.

Remember this, when he lifted the lid on the tax dodgers in American politics and business.

No wonder they want him gone.

She thought her weird manic laughing and attacks on Trump would be enough.
Her and Waltz were a terrible ticket.
