Some Democrats calling for an open convention to replace Biden according to a BBC correspondent interviewing a member of Bidens administration. They should get on with it

Trump winning looks more likely by the day to me and a second term for him looks very scary at the moment.

They have everybody set up and ready to go to essentially dismantle the state and get rid of all checks and balances.

The Democrats are enabling it too. So dumb.

Biden shouldn't have been on the ballot last time round, let alone this time!

Seen quite a few comments today that what it shows is that the US juggxrnaught just keeps running. The fact is that with a fucked Biden things have improved from when Trump was in office. But as we know we live in a time where people don't really care about the facts.

And of course that's not helped when you've got Trump, who should be nowhere near running for office either, is constantly shouting outright lies yet is rarely challenged in any meaningful way.

I look forward to him losing and then running again in 2028.

In terms of the actual laws of the land how easy is it for them to replace Biden at this point? The presidential nominee process seems to take months, there's not time to go through all that

Wonder what the response would be if they did. Relief there's someone stable, sympathy that he's ill or anger that they let it get to this stage

More likely one of the first two I think. What Democrat leaders should be doing is agreeing on a candidate now, and expediting their nomination

The nomination process is only to instruct the delegates who to vote for at the convention. If Biden drops out around the convention then the delegates will decide at an election of candidates at the convention.

Not ideal but gotta be better than this.

Et tu Brute?

Quite interesting to see who will raise their head above the parapet. Apparently Dr Jill likes the trappings and wants him to continue.

I think it will be the money men.

Then they have to get rid of Kamala some how, she is even more unpopular.

Quite hard to address a question to millions of people in another country. You seem defensive. Do you find him appealing?

How on earth am I defensive? I wouldn’t vote for him if he was here but I wouldn’t for Biden either. Even if I did like him - so what? As I’ve said millions do. Why is that do you think?

I'm sure an awful lot of people would vote for Andrew Tate too.

When I asked my US friend, in Houston, why, she just said "Americans are idiots."

She hates the way the country is going

Well, quite. From the sounds of it they've been keeping Biden going on a drug cocktail. He wanted to do the debate without these in order to prove he was still capable-the result is quite alarming.

The logic of a handful on here is that if you're anywhere right of centre you're an idiot and a very bad person.
I find it entertaining.

Oh and if you've made any kind of a success of your life you're a liar.

It's great.

Like most effective charlatans of the past he has charismatic appeal, sells quick fix solutions, and blames external scapegoats for the country's problems.

Nonsense.
Trump was fact checked after the debate and every answer he gave was found to have contained a lie.
He was involved in an attempt to over throw democracy and he has felony convictions and a civil convictionfor rape.
He has also surrounded himself with numerous felons, Manafort, (look what he got charged with), Bannon, Cohen to name 3.

If you're OK with that, fine, but don't try and make out the objections to himare based on anything else.

The average American watching it won't have cared as much about that as they'll have seen Biden look like he belongs in a hospital and thereby be almost literally unfit to govern.

I agree, but let's not pretend those who are against Trump base ot on some shallow politics of envy bollocks.
Everyone who stands for POTUS is extremely wealthy so you'll be backing a rich person whoever you're behind.
