For me he's the best of a very bad bunch but I can't see how he's got the capacity for another 4 years.
Trump not exactly a picture of health either.
Kennedy is in great shape, but the fact he puts that down to not having the covid vaccine tells you all you need to know, (and is absolutely nothing to do with the steroids he's quite happy to fire into himself).
De Santis is a cretin.

I genuinely thought he was the safe not Trump option who'd stand aside for Harris this time around. Just getting to the ejection itself will be an achievement for him!

Exactly what I believed. I thought when appointed Harris, it was to to prepare her to take on the reigns after his first term. I never for a single minute thought he would run for a second term.

The mad thing is, if climate change is your number one issue, he's your man, you've just got to ignore all his other nonsense.

Fuck me, 2 or 3 postson the Trump thread and I'm getting banner adverts for t shirts with the slogan

White, straight, republican male.

Who would but them? They're horrendous.
Like those t shirts with slogans about being a grand dad on.

Well they represent different strands of neo liberalism, but ultimately, yes, they're all neo liberals.

Why Trump's poll lead went up after criminal indictments

Facing criminal charges has only strengthened the former president's lead in the Republican race.

He's a train wreck isn't he.

A liar, a cheat, a fraud, sexist, misogynist, racist and just about certifiably insane.

I will come back later and list all his bad points.

Worryingly a serious US commentator saying on Radio 4 this morning that he has a more than 50% of winning the Presidency.

Nuts isn't it.

And you just know, if he got back in, he would be 10 times worse. Because then you will have a vengeful, revenge-seeking president and he would feel he was truly invincible.

Scary.

Absolutely. And of course he would then have the power to annul any convictions and/or prevent any further investigations. Democracy would be at serious risk in the US.

Based on what? Would love to see their numbers…

The current polls are way too early and have Trump and Biden tied. But with the US economy doing very well and Trump looking at three different court cases?

With his base, sure (see: @dutchman)

But his base wasn’t enough to beat Biden in 2020 and none of this is helping him persuade swing voters to change their minds. Especially when things are generally pretty healthy with the economy.

The number 1 and 2 songs on the Billboard 100 are both singers who have been outed for being racist. I’m both cases as soon as that happened sales went through the roof

Just heard the segment myself - it was Joe Walsh (a former Republican congressman with, by his own admission, a history of racist posts on Twitter) and Seb Gorka (a former Trump admin official who now works as a host on Newsmax and a part-time fish oil salesman).

BBC Rolodex working overtime last night!

The issue will be if there are enough people galvanised to vote for a rapidly aging Biden. There is a real likelihood that trump being indicted - especially for the riots - will galvanise the Republicans against a very apathetic opposition.

If Biden goes with Harris again as his running mate then he’s going to be in trouble

Biden's margin of victory in a lot of states last time was very slender, I'm not sure he can get away with just not being Trump one more time.

What has Trump done since 2020 to endear himself further to the swing voters he alienated during his first term?

Biden is obviously not a compelling candidate, but he has the advantage of being the incumbent, a solid economy, and an opponent despised by millions who could well go to prison if he loses (and will go scot free if he wins).

I would ask what Biden has done for the same voters. Perhaps the war in Ukraine might tip a few more in his direction, I don't know.
