Travel insurance with cancer (1 Viewer)

Hi there

I am planning a trip to the Valencia motogp in November for my friend who has terminal bowel cancer. His chemo will be finished when we go and the result from scans are showing the tumours have shrunk. Has anyone any ideas the kind of cost of travel insurance, insurance company recommendations etc? He has said that if it is too expensive to not bother with it but I personally cannot take the risk in case anything goes wrong.

Insurandgo.
I had 2 assessments for a heart transplant and a defibrillator/pacemaker fitted. To go to Mexico It cost me an extra £350-£400 because I had been with them for a few years.
Please don't risk it without. Always worth checking compare sites.

I did an online quote with insureandgo and when I answered the screening questions it said cover was not available so I rang and they have offered cover subject to my friend being fully screened for £247. I know it's not going to be £15 like mine but I wasn't expecting it to be as high as that. I did an online quote using a comparison site but that came back with no quotes available

Wouldn't the EU E11 cover be adequate?

There are insurers that specialise in providing cover for people with an ongoing medical condition. Try Moneysupermarket or Medicaltravelcompared - they are comparison sites. Expect a sizeable quote!

Interesting point and the answer is probably not and especially in Spain where it’s often refused due to the state of the health system. It varies from country to country the care allowed. I don’t think any include repatriation fees. I have never trusted it on its own.

There are special insurers. The risk actually from insurance company viewpoint is the likelihood of cancellation as much as illness on holiday

Thanks, I'll try them. I also have a site www.insurecancer.com that the lady at insureandgo gave me so I will contact them too

I am sure the E11 card covers basic needs and there are costs on top for extra specialist treatment. I think I will also need extra insurance cover as in the event that he falls ill I may need cover to come home too
