We’ve got rid of the expensive deadwood; Waghorn, Walker and Kane would be £30k per week between them.

Plus loanees wages

Plus Dabo / Rose etc.

Our match day income and ST income and TV income is considerably higher.

———-

Probably £30m net income consideration from Gyok / Gus (assume some sell on to Brighton / Dutch club?).

———-

We’ve plenty of headroom for some decent signings.

At this stage I would have expected a couple of £1m European Hamer style punts to have come in along with a couple of £500k L1/2 gambles.

They could end up like Hamer or equally like Hillssner - them’s the brakes.

It’s a lottery, but at the moment we haven’t brought many tickets.

Our squad is very very thin, especially with 9 sub spots.

Very true, and I agree with you on Kitching, £4 million is too much to pay for him. I think Brekalo is worth more though, he looks like the real deal tbh.

Based on what though ? Signing overseas players always carries a risk with them adjusting to another country . Saying that I would rather pay £4 million for him over Kitching

Lati can play there at a push but I agree it's a gamble
Hopefully one we won't have to take

I don't like the January transfer window. But it will still be there as an option. We will get injuries but will we have as many long term ones as last year? You can only have so many back ups in any one position so not something you can completely legislate against That part is a lottery.

I still think signing the right players for the next
2-3 years is key, not just signing players to say we have signed a player.

Yeah fair enough, we obvs have different stances on it and I respect that, I just feel we should pushed the boat out to get that quality CM we need.
Either way there’s nothing we can do about it, I just hope for the sake of this forum we win on Saturday, god knows what it’ll be like if we lose 3-0 or something

Yeah fair, always hard to tell and we all know as little as the next man but just from highlight reels and how much Viking rate him it seems like he’s a quality player. But as you say it is hard to tell tbf and whether he’d adjust to moving here etc is difficult to say.

I dont think Kind and Robbins would of been at the Superstore opening if they thought there were any last minute signings to be done. Can see us getting another loan or 2 and keeping the money until January.

Yeah you’re right it would have but we’ve moved on as a club since then, selling our best players to help fund development, Vik & Gus together got 30 goals for us last season, to remain worried about £2-£3m when we have a large deficit in quality in our midfield seems like the wrong way to look at it in my opinion.
...we haven't moved on as a club. We've sold the two best players the city has seen in the last 20 years for big fees. Excluding that our revenue will be similar (and dependent on team performance). Trying to expand too quickly has been the downfall of many clubs over the years.

If we get the right loans in, we can hold on until the summer to get the right players in. As others have said, it is rare for the right quality players to be available in January (and the prices are always inflated for that window).

You might. I don't. Nothing about his time here indicates he "doesn't want to spend the cash". He's got a plan for five seasons. I don't want him to rush something to appease impatient football fans.

Fair enough, I get it but I just think now is a good time to get in a quality CM that we can bring along with the rest of the signings, bed him into the team and work out what else we may need in future transfer windows. Anyway what’s done is done and what isn’t isn’t.

No one would disagree with you. Clubs are taking this piss, trying to exploit our position - cash from Hamer - with time ticking (see Kitching).

Tmrw, it swings back to us. Last chance for them to get any cash at all till Jan. Feel we'll get one done, hoping for two. Either way, beers on Sat!

I agree with this. When Hamer left I thought we would have 1/2 incoming from markets where you’re likely to get a bit more value (e.g. benelux)

And now Jack Clarke has kicked up a fuss as he was promised he could leave this tea fee window for £10m. Burnley offered that…

Looks like Stewart and Roberts to Sunderland.

If Eccles or Sheaf get injured we are having to rely on Liam Kelly again. I love Kelly but we really need to get someone in

No deal is probably better than a bad deal to be honest, we could do with some extra players but at the right price only. God, think back to when we rushed to spend the Mcsheffrey windfall on Kyle and McKenzie
