Just a quick tip for train-goers on Saturday: Split your ticket at New Street, and use open returns.
An open return from Coventry to Stoke-on-Trent is £34.60, and singles are around £20, so it's quite expensive.
Get an open return ticket from Cov-New Street (£3 odd) and then New Street-Stoke or Longport (£16.50), and use the savings for a few beers. PUSB.
taxi from longport few and far between - if you know what time you are arriving it may be best to find a local firm and book one for both directions. Longport is a 'unmanned station' no ticket office, station staff etc. If you dont get a ticket prior to travelling the clippy will charge you the highest price for your ticket ( if you get caught that is)
as i stated its about 1 and 1/4 miles up hill ( or up bank as the locals would say)
Trains from Nuneaton starting at £16.50 return, ( Train from Cov to Nuneaton at £4.60 return) and train goes straight through to Stoke, taxi to Burslem is roughly £7-8 ( nothing if a few of you as what is £1.50 each etc) From Cov £33 return for two singles and again no changes straight through to Stoke.
Overall you could be better going from Cov - Nuneaton - Nuneaton - Stoke on the train at £21.10 return, as anything to Stoke - Crewe in that direction etc is always cheaper from Nuneaton than Cov.
