Exclusive: Coventry City star opens up on his departure

Seems like Robins called him in on Friday and said he was being let go.

Sounds like Robins already has a player lined up.

They don’t get and and haven’t for ages - he was never staying

Two points to take from his comments. More than likely the McFadzean deal is over the line and Willis is definitely off - not that the latter is a surprise though.

Edit, I was probably a bit hasty in my initial assessment.

Yeah - been here all of 2 years.

Whoever is in charge of sums at the CT must be very proud of their work today:-
"Davies has been limited to 50 senior games in all competitions, exactly 25 in each of the two years he’s been at the Ricoh Arena".

Disappointed to see him leave as he was the sort of defender we lacked for so many years previously - what Reda Johnson could've been if he was ever fit - but full trust in Robins that he knows how he wants his squad to look for next year. Fear is that he'll go to a lower League One team and score against us lol

Like Davies a lot , however today’s signing shows we are intent on improving the squad , he wouldn’t have played

I like Davies and thought he was great last year.

I presume that's our business at CB done now with these options:

Hyam, McFadzean, Rose, Williams & Drysdale

Comes across well in the interview IMO and I think MR changed his mind because he knew McFadzean was signing. The guy wants to play so I think it's fair to him to let him try and do that. Hope he manages to find a club where he'll get that.

one and a half known quantities - Hyam and Williams. Hope it doesn't go pear shaped

What?

We have two known quantities hyam and Mcfadzean. Rose who has a good reputation from Scotland and then the others. Don't think we are exactly weak in that department

James McPake had a better reputation than Rose - we need another signing

But McPake was signed to be first choice in the Championship, Rose has been signed to be (presumably) 3rd choice in League one so your point about reputation is irrelevant.

I'd be happy enough to start the season with those options at CB. There's plenty of other areas we need to strengthen first.

The club has said it’s still trying to resign Willis

You seem to be saying we should withdraw this offer?

Then again you’ve spent a lot of time on here defending that heap of shit Burge so to be polite your football knowledge is questionable

Would be interesting if Willis does sign, unless they pretty much know he isn't but like Lewis green they tried.

I forgot that the standard of football stayed the same over the course of a decade... Of course I retract my statement.

Also please feel free to point out where I have said we don't need to sign another CB? I'll wait.

It's not a high priority, and is only a position we should recruit for if we can improve on what we have. But I don't think blocking the path way for two very highly rated young talents beneath the three is the smartest idea unless either: Willis renews or someone of equal or better quality is available, and only after we have sorted the more prevalent positions.

I think MR probably had intended to activate the extension but then Davies did his interview a couple of weeks ago basically saying he wants a longer deal and to be a starter or he’s off. I imagine MR wasn’t pleased with his comments and that, along with the fact he would not be 1st choice, led to him “granting his wish”.

Shame but with McFadzean signing and Hyam stunning last year, he was unlikely to be in the first choice two, which is what he wants at this stage of his career. I hope we don't regret letting him go as he would have been a great option to put pressure on the other two (along with Rose hopefully) and at worst, excellent backup. But you can see why that's not what he wants.

Good luck for the future Tom, thanks for your service, and I'll never forget you getting the train to Wembley with the fans, a bunch of tinnies under your arm!
