I think our outfield players have squandered far more opportunities to score goals and win games than Burge has made mistakes and cost us points. I’d put money on it in fact.

Luke Thomas or Jordy Hiwula could miss a golden chance (as they have been doing all season) and a minute later Burge could make a mistake and concede a goal, who do our fans blame? Burge.

You must be new to football as a sport if you rate good chances the same as gk calamity errors

played since I was 10, managed for 6 years and FA qualified as a coach - passed off on my badges by our very own Dávid busst.
You obviously think missed multiple gilt edge chances count less towards losing games as goalie errors... all about the glory at the other end I guess for you
The reality is that a missed open goal for a striker, a ball slipping through the goalie hands or a Steven Gerard slip / misplaced back pass from a defender all count the same. It’s just part of the game , just that often the goalie error will always be berated more by the average armchair fan who doesn’t know better

To be fair, opinions can still be idiotic. Just because everyone has a right to one doesn’t automatically make others think “oh well, that’s his opinion, it must be sensible”.

What is crazy in the league this year is that Luton, on 91 points with 1 game to go and having been top for months on a 28 game unbeaten run have a very real chance of missing out on automatic promotion.

1 Luton P45 GD46 Pts91
2 Barnsley P45 GD42 Pts91
3 Portsmouth P44 GD33 Pts87

Luton vs Oxford: Will be a tough game against an in form Oxford
Bristol Rovers vs Barnsley: Bristol are now safe and only have 1 win in 9
Portsmouth vs Peterborough
Portsmouth vs Accrington
Portsmouth have 2 home games although the first will be tough on paper as Peterborough need the points for 6th. If they can get through that game on Tuesday then it's a must win fixture for each team on the final day.

Blimey! I hadn’t realised that. Ive kept abreast of Pompey’s fortunes but not noticed that Luton weren’t home and dry, I’d just assumed they were.
It’s been quite an odd division all year. About a month ago I noted that there was the top 5 that had broken away from everyone else (still the case), then there was a group of 4 or 5 other teams (of which we were one), then there was about 2 points separating everyone else!

It’ll be funny if Portsmouth do what they did in League 2 the year before last, ending as champions having only spent the final 30 minutes of the season in 1st.

Imagine the contrasting emotions if we'd have sneaked 6th while they dropped to 3rd. We'd be euphoric about making the play offs and they'd be absolutely gutted. One of the things that makes football so great I guess!

That’s right!
I was in Pompey that day...euphoric scenes aplenty!
In fairness though this year Pompey have led this division for quite some time...pretty much up until Christmas if memory serves me right.

For amusement iIve been browsing the other fans forums.

Walsall predictiong a hammering and relegation, ending with hope.

Peterborough fans discussing which will be their favourite away day next year in the Championship, followed by Fergie out, chairman is an idiot, players are shit etc.

Great entertainment.

Quite a lot like it is on here.

Luke Thomas must be new to football if he’s not finishing chances like he is. Sickening for a professional, age and experience has nothing to do with it.

The Oxford og sums up our luck sometimes.

But overall missing out on the playoffs goes down to a few bad performances over the season not taking our chances and silly mistakes.

We have ha a great season considering some said we would go down straight away. We have a young fresh team who are going to score 9 today.

Now you are changing your argument from missed chsnces to open goals

No one is here lambasting burge for goals where maybe" he could hsve got a hand to that" etc . Thst is the equivilsnt of a striker hitting 1 too close to keeper or not elevsting it enough etc

Missing chances is a very different thing and not on same level as coming to edge of box in 89th min and letting ball loop over you.

If iur season full of thomas rounding keeper and missing fair enuff but its not. Its full of shots charged down or shots jist wide. Very different thing

Go bsck to those fa courses sunshine. This couch potato just schooled you

I’d say there’s been a big percentage of games where we’ve had at least one chance that 99% of fans have been left in disbelief it hasn’t been put away. Like, a really simple chance.

Burge has made mistakes too, that’s definitely not disputed.

But I reckon if we’d have put away even a quarter of those decent chances we’d be comfortably in the play offs.

No argument on thay kg. Missed chsnces have defibtley cost us this season. Ive never said different. I am just pointing ojt that a 1 on 1 that hits post shud not br clased ssme as a air punch from gk thst leads to a goal

I’m not saying 1 on 1’s either... they’re difficult if you have loads of time! More the chances like Hiwula’s against Wimbledon, Hyam at Barnsley and Thomas last week (just off the top of my head). Also, how many penalties did we miss this season?! 3/4?

Mind you, I lost it with Burge after that equaliser at Walsall.

All that said, I’m not disappointed with this season at all. I know we could’ve done better, but overall I feel we’ve done very well. And it’s a hell of a lot better than it was when Robins took charge!

Agree with those thomas and hiwulla chances. Hiwulla top scorer tho so not a long term problem 4 him unlike consistent mistames from burge. hyams was a grest chsnce that he missed. He still executed his header. Birge does not do the fundementals of a gk half time. A defender not scoring a winning goal cant be same as a specialist not doing his job

That’s very true.

And yeah, Hiwula’s grown into the team more and more as the seasons gone on.
