I'd love that too, but I've come to realise that it's enjoying the journey with watching us. I'd take last season (or this) any day over watching a season of dross/hanging on in The PL/championship etc. It's all about the memories, friensl etc, although of course I want the team to do as well as possible. That's why I'm chuffed that the supporters clubs have taken off and started to reunite a lot of the fanbase. Really positive stuff lately.

Harry sounds like we have similar views would be good to have a pint if you ever come back to Tewkesbury

5-0 tomorrow takes us to +7
Beating Doncaster 5-0 will put us +12 and end Doncaster on +11. Simple.

Don’t even know why I’m saying it, it won’t happen!

Give it a rest ffs. Let mr sort whats best out. Burge cost us a few games but also pulled off a few worldy saves to earn us points as well. There are a few others who cost us with blatant missed goals.
A great first season in league 1 so be grateful and we can build on it next season

Let's give credit where it's due; we have got down to the final 2 games of the season with at least a nominal chance of qualifying for the POs. If you had offered me that at the start of the season, I would have taken it. That being said, it does seem like a bit of a missed opportunity this season with the (until recently) lack of goals despite our spending on the strikeforce, plus various unforced errors by Burge gifting away points.

I’ll say it now the reason why we didn’t get into the play offs is Burge.

i would very much like a new keeper next season but he isnt the "reason". Many factors of which his mistakes will be one

Just my opinion that I think Burge has been a mess since December and had we had competition in that area he wouldn’t have had a look in again.

Why is it important to pin the blame on one person? It’s just crazy.

Don’t look to to deep mate. Burge has cost us many a point this season and the others he has played in. Whilst I get we have missed chances this seasons what I can’t except is the consistent mistakes Burge has made. I get it a keeper can make a mistake but this guy never learns from his mistakes.

Strangely, if we win tomorrow, we go into the final week with a mathematically probability of a play-off spot.

I would of taken this at the start of the season.

This is not to be overlooked as a newly promoted team.

I'm guessing this would be already mentioned in the thread. If it has, I apologise.

I think our outfield players have squandered far more opportunities to score goals and win games than Burge has made mistakes and cost us points. I’d put money on it in fact.

Luke Thomas or Jordy Hiwula could miss a golden chance (as they have been doing all season) and a minute later Burge could make a mistake and concede a goal, who do our fans blame? Burge.

I would suggest we had a very quiet opening to the season, followed by another lull in activity before the end of the first half of the season.

The second half of the season has been much improved results-wise.

If we can get off to a flying start next season, and keep the momentum building, who knows what could happen.

Personally, I am waiting for these next games City will play this season. With any luck they will be goal thrillers!

No fan of Burge and he's made some clangers and cost us points. But equally, he's made some outstanding stops that have saved us points too. Swings and roundabouts.

It's a collective failing IMHO, to single him out gives the rest of the team a free pass. Look at the six league games leading up to Christmas. Took one point in those six and in only one game were we beaten by more than one goal. That's 450 minutes of football where our strike force must have had at least ONE guilt ridden chance to score a goal that would have given us the point we need to potentially go into the last game with a realistic chance of getting into the play offs. And that was our "bad" run.

Fook me not the burge argument again... the truth always lies somewhere in between, so why can’t we all just agree that

1 - he has made series of clangers this seaso that some just can’t forgive ( yet we still finish top 10 )
2 - we more than likely missed out on the play offs because of lack of goals , or missed chances to score nailed on goals pretty much week in week out ( both of which have been forgiven a lot more than Bruges odd clangers ) yet many choose to dwell on the keeper errors rather than the glaring obvious
3 - burge made some worldies for us in both the vital games of the cup win and the play offs last season

so let’s at least give him credit for the good things but agree that his time with us has reached the end due to the errors that some can’t forgive, and that’s that. Turning him into the scapegoat while nit giving credit for him playing a major part in the best couple of seasons we as fans have had in years is a little harsh to say the least

Onwards and upwards for us all

I said the same thing on another thread but its not the only reason we just missed out.
We've dominated several games where we should have won but either lost or drew and we have missed sitters late on in games more than once.
Put one of them away and we're going into tomorrow with a realistic chance of making the play offs.

Exactly ... imagine Thomas is a goalkeeper , and every chance to score that he missed , was a goalmouth fumble or cross dropped... or Chaplin & Hiwula were a keeper and every shot that went wide or over the bar or one in one they missed was them being a keeper and not coming off their line for a cross or kicking a goal kick out etc . You get the picture .

Truth is , with most footy fans if it happens past the half way line it gets mopped up and forgotten about , and put down to being a young developing team , we can only afford players still learning their craft etc... it happens in our goalmouth and it’s uproar and how dare he make a mistake , it’s all his fault because he’s not Edison or Schmical. While actual football people often praise burge

Im hardly an expert on a Burge perspective, having see two live games this year and not really many in recent times.

I will say two things.

Burge is some way short from the traditional high calibre of goalkeepers Coventry had generally before 2001.

Its a team game and never one persons fault over a whole season. This is unfair.

Edison? Outstanding light bulb moment.
Thomas is not a goalkeeper. Chaplin and Hiwula are not goalkeepers. It's a bizzare and desperate way of lifting blame off a shite keeper.

Both excellent points , Cov have often been blessed with decent stoppers & maybe that’s why we compare unfairly for the level we play at currently

And the second point is spot on! ... my sons coach and his team manager make the same point to him all the time ( which is maybe why I defend burge - my sons were / are both keepers ) they tell him that there was 10 players in front of him that failed to do their job before that player got his goal , or that the goal he conceded didnt lose tha game , it was as much to do with the players in frontt of him that couldnt find a way through the opposition 11 players the same way the opposition did against us. Win and lose as a team

Striker misses half a dozen sitters and scores 1 for a win - hero! 6 missed chances forgotten

Goalie makes half a dozen good saves , but concedes one - villain, 6 saves he was doing what’s expected of a goali, And mistake cost us the game... which was the point I was trying to make about other players in other positions skybluefaz
