The current most regular cliche in the football world
Hardly an interview with a manager, coach or player ends without it being included at least once
Probably most fans too though - to be fair.....

I always wonder to whom or what the speaker needs to be fair! Needless, in any shape or form, across the piece, Brian!!

I know the context of the thread isn't exactly thought provoking G but seriously...when was the last time you said something positive?

'To be fair' is up there with 'no disrespect but....' (and said person goes on to actually say something disrespectful)

Surely depends on how it's used. I think I used it the other day and think it was about Burge. Something along the lines of 'He's a much better player these days to be fair'.

Nowt disrespectful about that.

I'm not being funny... but you are talking absolute shite. I'm not being funny is the ultimate pre cursor to offensive statements.

So is 'I'm not being funny, but that was hilarious ' offensive?

Is it wrong to want to remove the larynx of footballers that call the manager; ‘The Gaffer’ ?

There are a number of things that irritate a grumpy old curmudgeon such as me. I have a particular dislike for some basic spoken grammar errors - "could of" and "pacifically" are possibly the worst, along with kids saying "like" or "literally" every other word.

However, the one that shouldn't irritate me quite as much as it does is "I personally" well if you've said "I" then there is no need for "personally" but having seen and heard it regularly, even more annoyingly it's started creeping into my own vocabulary - oral and written! Grrrrrrrr

In terms of football talk, it's fans who say 'heard it from a reliable source'

9 times out of 10 it's crap.

People who say 'quite literally' who then go on to spout bullsh*t, should be shot at dawn.
Heard an American rock star (can't remember who) say once, 'I went out to play the gig having had a serious drink beforehand and, I literally died on stage.'
No you didn't you utter twat or you wouldn't be here telling us about it....

There’s no one else in the vicinity, but the dickhead still looks around and whispers;

‘Between you and me...’
