Could you please post in as few words as possible why you feel Thorn is a good manager?

He appears to get a huge amount of undue sympathy and support because he is ''one of us'', he works under tight financial conditions, he works for a bunch of scum, he has us playing aimless but ''attractive'' football, he had his best players sold from under him, he ''discovered'' Dann, Fox, Henderson, Gunnarson et al (so many fans believe), he ''SAVED'' us from relegation with an amazing 3 wins - couldn't have been the fact that other teams were so poor!

People have even started saying - ''who will replace him, Mr 6 months coaching experience Carsley?'' Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that Mr 6 months more coaching experience than Andy Thorn Carsley, the same Lee Carsley who has worked under and learnt from managers such as David Moyes and Alex McLeish? In the MODERN GAME?!

What about these facts:

Since he took over 30 games ago, his team has won 5 games, yes 5 games!
This season no other team in the football league has won less games than his team.
He has zero coaching experience, and his playing experience is mainly from the 80's.
His team has a terribly low shots per game ratio.
His team is easy to beat.
His team do not look to play the ball forward.
His team prefer to play inside their own half, even when losing.
His team leaves all players back for corners.
His team has arguably one of the best central defences in the league, yet look clueless half the time defensively.
His team have shown they CAN play well, but not consistently.
His team appear to have no heart for the fight.
His team appear unmotivated.
His team have lost more points from winning positions than any team in the football league, because his team sits back and expects to concede.
His team have no belief.

Now, I ask you, how much of the above is down to a poor squad and how much is down to the manager?

I'm completely with the people who sympathise with his plight, but the insistence that nobody could do better than a managerial rookie blows my mind.

It's all irrelevant. SISU are not going to spend money on firing him and appointing someone else. Love him or loathe him, he will be here as long as SISU are.

All i know he has had too work with no real investment........ also I dont train what has got to work with as do not see them on a daily basis.

some of your points are correct and spot on, but I believe this is consequence of what I have just said and the team in general are at best poor with lots of people with no interest and that the manager cant work out what to do for the best.

I believe his does have CCFC at heart

You forgot to add the fact he don't have a clue how to manage in the last 25 mins of a game

Every game this season we've been HAMMERED in the last 20 mins, and it just doesn't look like he's got a clue

YAWN........i must have missed the bit where SISU said they will spend on a new manager, or the bit where we were offered Ferguson or Sven and we all said no thanks we want AT. What's that i didn't oh, just another boring thread then, by someone who thinks they know best.

IT IS ALL POINTLESS UNTIL WE GET INVESTMENT AND CHANGE CAN BE MADE

I have been saying for ages about his tactical skills, even at the end of last season I think.

Putting investment aside, he doesn't seem to be able to make game changing decisions yet managers do it every game against us!

knowledge could this not just have been continued on one of the numerous existing threads on this subject

Does Thorn have a proper contract? I can't believe tight arses like SISU would have signed him into a contract with no get out clause. Johnson's Paint Trophy here we come!!

I'm pretty sure it was said at the time that he was on a rolling contract, not sure how long for, can't imagine they are tied in for lots of compo if they get rid of him.

Not even sure he's getting paid much more than when he was a scout, well he still is a scout as well but you know what I mean, so it's a cheap option for SISU.

I don't really think you can say Thorn is doing an amazing job but it's difficult to judge given the circumstances. For me if there's money to be spent on anything I'd rather it be sent on players rather than another manager. We've been through enough managers in recent years to know that a change doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference.

The other thing to consider is the effect on the players. Morale can't be great now but if the players like Thorn and he gets the push their heads might drop even more, can't really afford to have that happen.

This! This! This is the one thing that pisses me off more than anything. This should be a minimum prerequisite. Fight, battle, chase, harry, close down. Surely the manager can get that simple notion drummed into his troops.

Problem is two of the main fighters in the team are always Mcinjured so we are left a bit lightweight in the fighting department. But I guess that would be Thorns fault aswell.

This is the exact attitude I cannot grasp and a poor argumental point.

As you can see, I stated that I fully understand all of the difficulties Thorn is up against and obviously injuries are not directly his fault.

What is his fault is tactics, substitutions, motivation, heart, aimless fucking sideways passing, talking boring crap after each game and sitting back on leads!!!!!

The points I am making are ALL the things Thorn is there to influence and he is either not influencing them, or doing so extremely poorly.

SPOT ON
poor squad apart from the kids and an even worst manager

SISU will not change the manager because that will cost money, they will not strengthen the squad, because that will cost money, they will seek transfer fees from the better players in the squad in January, because that will raise the money to cover the rest of the season, so it is pointless worrying about it. If a new manager came in under these circumstances I don't believe they will be able to turn things round enough to keep us up, so it is pointless arguing over it.

It is my feeling SISU may use AT as a scapegoat, personally I hope he gets a shot at League One next year with a competative budget, then if he fails it wil be fair to make such judgements.

I'm not worrying now.. our fate is sealed.
