This is a major part of our season; the christmas period. Games galore. We've got massive games with Doncaster, Preston, Stevanage and MK Dons before the year is out. If we win them, we will be right up there witht eh big boys. If we lose them, we can kiss promotion goodbye. But do you think we can do it? What games do you think we can win? PUSB!

think we need to beat preston - and get 4 points from the other 3 . I think we will lose to MK/draw to Doncaster and beat stevenage

Personally, i think you're bang on. 0-0 at Donnie, 2-1 against Preston, 1-1 at MK Dons and 2-0 against Stevenage. 8 out of 15, i'd take that

if we can win 50% of the tough games to don,preston,stevenage and mk dons it will be enough to keep us in it imo

if we are still 9-10pts from playoffs come jan 1st i will be happy

Three of the four games are away and we've won our last three away. So that hopefully holds us in good stead. I'll say 10 points, but I'll take seven or more. Just think we may edge it at MK Dons.

Firstly, Doncaster's home form isn't exactly amazing, its their away form that has got them where they are so i think we can get at least a point.

Then Preston who are a bit of a bogey side to us in recent years, but we should be looking to win every home game if we're realistically hoping to achieve play offs.

In the form we're in i'd also hope for us to win against Stevenage as I didn't think much to them even though they did beat us at home, this game is easily winnable.

Finally, MK is going to be very tough. I'd be suprised if we got anything out of this as their home form is very good, always hopeful we can snatch a point though.

Overall, realistically you're looking at about 7 points, 10 with your sky blue optimism

We can beat anyone. We won't win them all, but the team at least is playing well. Maybe a siege mentality has been isntalled by MR. But we are scoring lots of goals and conceding very few, a good combination.

Heads down, take each game as it comes and go for the win, accept a tough away draw here and there and keep putting the results in. The moment we start to get carried away the wheels can come off. Grab points here and there and we will slowly but surely rise up the table.

If we sneak 6th place on goal difference on the last day of the season then that's a massive result.

7 pts from 12 an ill be happy. Any more and ill start believing in promotion. Any less than 6 pts and I'd start to worry how permanent the revival is.

The biggest difference in the team from the one under Thorn and Shaw is when they haven't got the ball. The opposition has the ball and they're hunted down by 2-3 Cov players everytime. They're given no time on the ball. It's a pleasure to watch!

I was going to post this exact topic.I think we can only start talking about the playoffs if we have a successful Xmas period..the next 3-4 weeks will pretty much determine our season..its clear we are too good to go down and I think we look at the moment like a championship team in league 1. Just wish robins was appointed pre season .who knows where we would be now.but I'm guessing top 4

I still don't think we can do it, and I won't start believing until we get to within 5-6 points.

The points difference between us and 6th has increased by 1 point since Robins came in despite being one of the top form teams, and we're likely to lose mcgoldrick, bailey and Adams in the next 3 weeks.

Looking back at what points 6th place got over the past 11 years and they are: 73,71,82,76,76,75,71,70,73,81 and 78. So it's pretty safe to say we need at least 70. It's essential we keep the squad we have or strengthen in January if players leave.

We are 5W 1D 2L in our last eight games averaging the magic two points per game. Last seven is actually 2.28. Again last five is 2ppg.

I think we can't lose more than four games now until the seasons end. That leaves us with 21 games/63 points to play for. I think we need to aim for around 14 wins and 7 draws. That would put us on 76 points.

Since MR took charge we are getting 1.71ppg. So 14W 7D 4L (1.96ppg) is that do-able?

I know each teams form will dip with injuries and suspensions. It does seem a tough ask but with the current squad I think we can. Still need that long winning streak and others to slip up. Yes, time to knuckle down.

What you fail to also state is that Tranmere were over 20 points ahead of us and are now just 13, condensing that top 6. It's fine, you don't have confidence. It's hard to, being a Cov fan. Any idea how far ahead the top 6 were, say, 10 league games ago? This seems to be around the time Robins has really started to turn it round so it would be interesting to know if we've closed the gap at all since then or not.

Right, so 10 games ago we were 10 points behind 6th place. Doesn't sound like much, but then by 7 games ago that had increased to 14 points. So in 7 games we've shaved 5 points off that. I would say that, barring the Scunthorpe game, in that 7 games we've shown a decent level of consistency and this is what is needed to get near that top 6. I can see the gap fluctuates, I'm just hoping we can do it.

When MR took over we had 3 points to Tranmere's 17 a 14 point gap. 8 games into his tenure(end of Oct) Tranmere top on 31 and us on 14 a 17 point gap. Interestingly the gaps between 1st and 2nd(2 points) and 1st and 6th(5 points) didn't change during this. Tranmere now joint top on 40 points with us 13 adrift on 27 with 6th place only 4 points away from top spot.

10 games ago we were 19th on 10 points from 11 games and Crawley were 6th on 19 points - a 9 point difference between us a 6th.

Just seen your other post...yep it fluctuates but like you said it's a sustained run not what you do over 7 games. On the same website in the pen guide it shows that 5 other teams have either matched or surpassed what we've achieved in the last 6.

If and its a big if the improbable does happen, it will go right to the wire and we'll probably scrape 6th on goal difference. Talk of if we sign DMC then we'll finished 3rd at worst is way over the top.

Lets get in the top 10 first, that's a 5 point gap to start with.

We're doing better than we were, and currently enjoying play off form. It may or may not last. What certainly affects us though is the Shaw era not just in terms of points lost but the damage done to the team spirit.

Work hard and win the games one at a time. Don't get carried away.
