Here we are suddenly 8th place and just a point out of the playoffs. Great start to the year. 5 league wins out of 6. The only defeat is against Leeds who have won their games either side of our defeat 7-0 against Cardiff and 4-0 away to Watford. The clubs all around us keep dropping points.

Let's add to this Grimes who is always looking to get something to happen and the return of EMC.

I had my doubts about Lampard. But we're a different side now. If we fail to get promoted this season next season will be fun.

I think if we end the season well and do make the playoffs it will make our top players think about staying

Realistically we might take the option on Wright's contract but the others will be at their peak value and probably would get sold, but for a fair bit more than if the season peters out.

Sheaf will be the interesting one . Hasn't had a good season so far , will need to finish it well when fit .

We're definitely moving in the right direction, but we seem to be nowhere near WBA etc standards. Blackburn will drop like a stone, so we may sneak 6th again but we need a really good run in.

Agreed, now Albion have Armstrong think they are nailed on for playoffs. Blackburn will drop and Boro hit and miss.

Agreed, but it will depend on us starting to fire and beating the lower teams comfortably plus those around us.

I know it's not the same standard, but from Feb in the L1 we were winning that league regardless of Covid, beating teams before K.O.

For sure but not many of our rivals have players of the calibre of Wright , Sheaf and EMC to return to their ranks .
Lampard has way over exceeded my expectations of him and ,for me , will be even braver when we have a full compliment of players to pick from

It will be utterly bizarre if we actually have a full squad of players for the last 10-14 games. A design by fault could actually be our secret weapon…

Absolutely.

Wins like tonight with a last minute goal & the shootout win v Wednesday can be massive. The positivity & momentum they can bring cannot be understated.

It’s happening isn’t it, we haven’t been great all season but we’re getting results when it matters, Clarke made a difference tonight, add wright and sheaf in the next few weeks and we won’t be far off, it’s a massive gap in quality between 4th and the chasing pack but it doesn’t matter, get in the play offs and anything can happen

Things are falling into place . Dovin is getting the run he needs and performing brilliantly, Kitching is back to his best , Grimes is just such a good player and confidence amongst the group is growing

most suprising thing tonight we didn’t go back to the formation that won 5 on the trot, we played one up front all game, just shows we can play different formations but genuinely could only see qpr winning that, just shows, good teams find a way to win

WBA are very inconsistent. Just like all the sides out of the top 4. That's how we have nearly caught up with them in such a short time. WBA v Blackburn tonight. 5th v 6th. A draw would be good.

QPR had won 6 out of their last 8 games. They were fresher than us. Last night was a big test for us. It was great to see EMC back and he gave them problems and nearly scored so looks like he will carry on from where he left. Grimes was all over the place always looking to start an attack. These two players alone will make a big difference to us on the run in.

Just numbers, but.......

If we'd run at Lampard rate (1.8 points per game) from the start of the season we'd be on 58 points and in 5th place. If we continue this rate we'll end up on 69 points which is 4 points off what was needed for the play-offs last season. I reckon that 2 points per game is what's needed to make the play-offs. Bring it on.

Lampard has been a revelation but I can’t help but feel that we’ve given ourselves too much to do after the poor start.

Next season will be interesting though with him in charge. Fair play to Douglas.

King was right to make the change and also right that it is a top 6 deck wether it officially finishes there or not.

Lampard Ppg would have us challenging for autos if not for the coaching set up mess at start of season?

I think it'll be a low points tally for the play offs this season, outside the top 4, the league is very much the same and everyone is there for the taking.

We're 1 point out of the playoffs. We're in better recent form than all the clubs around us. Grimes has joined the party. He will make a big difference. EMC is back and looking strong already. We're now getting clean sheets instead of letting nearly every shot on target in. And we will have a fresh Wright when he comes back.

More positives than negatives.

I kind of agree. We have a 'top 6 deck' squad but have weaknesses in certain positions. Depends on which way you look at it.

The current form isn't sustainable for the rest of the season. Wright is also quite some time away from being back.

Said it over and over, everyone from 5th downwards is extremely mediocre, if they weren't we wouldn't be so close to them after the absolutely minging start we had.
I still find it hard to believe we'll get in given where we were, but then I'll probably still think that once we're in there.
It's miraculous really and makes all the talk of hating the players look like the absolute shit that it was. They needed a change, we were stale and Lampard has been a breath of fresh air.
