Think Farron is a disgrace hiding behind his backward views when it's well known in Westminster he had to go because of poor election results (he lost more than half their seats in England). Lib Dems are lying snakes though so no surprise there.

Surely a tolerant society would tolerate alternate views rather than tell us what views are right and wrong.

If you kept saying Mohamned was s wizard in the sky how long would you last do you think?

The left in society are behaving more like fascists every day in this country. You have to have a certain belief or you are wrong.

What bollocks. A tolerant society doesn't tolerate theft or murder or a million other things. The rule of thumb is whether your behaviour impacts on others. Your rights to swing your fists ends where my face begins.

If your religious views are that others should be stopped doing something legal then they aren't compatible with a tolerant society.

Again an example of the facist approach the left is attempting to take society down.

If you reverse your curious argument and the act of homosexuality was illegal and the Christian belief was to support that then you'd I assume take the same view.

The disturbing truth is that people on the left want to define what liberal thought is and anything that transgresses their interpretation they want preventing.

You effectively want to control the freedom of speech. Peter Tatchell has been banned because as a libertarian he believes in freedom of speech and as such objected to another act of censure regarding Germaine Greer. As a consequence of that he was branded a fascist and banned from speaking. The debate forum socialists want is a one platform agenda in unions - namely the suppression of alternative thought. They also want to ban certain newspapers as they give a view that is not acceptable. Does that behaviour resonate with you?

You are confusing liberalism as being the act you consider liberal - it isn't. It's the ability to allow yourself to defend the right to counter argument and alternate thought.

It's why Peter Tarchell for example defended the right of the couple not to decorate a cake for a gay couple on religious grounds. You would just say that's bollocks in your well thought out considered way

Liberty is not a political ideology - it's a belief that transcends ideologies of the left and right. It's why, for example, shami Chakribati supported Jon Gaunt in his dismissal case by Talk Sport. You wouldn't and would struggle to understand why she did.

Farron raises an entirely legitimate point regarding how liberal and tolerant our society is. His hounding out of office shows tolerance of thought only exists if you accept the "correct" view.

That is disturbing.

In the end though this misses the point doesn't it?

If Tim Farron has a view based off whatever ideology that he is not comfortable with an issue a tolerant society would accept his right to have that view.

It seems there is a very disturbing trend in this country of a national socialist view from the left of suppression of freedom of speech and expression.

And yet ironically, the mainstream Labour movement would have happily silenced their leader until the GE result

The reason I find him, cable and Clegg so repugnant is their desire to abandon principals for ministerial glory.

I do wonder though why his religious views are an issue and he should have had such an interrogation.

I think ALL ministers compromise their principles at various points in their careers in order to gain or sustain their power. Singling out a few is simple bias

The more choices we have the better imo.
I think the next election would be fantastic for the country if the outcome was one which resulted in a hung parliament &a short lived liberal government. THAT would shake some of these bastards up to do more work to do right for the masses in manner the masses find palatable
