“I've had a week away with the family but you don't really switch off,“ said Thorn.

“I was hoping the embargo would have been lifted by the time I got back but there is a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes to get that done. From my point of view I want to crack on and get people in so it's a massive three weeks for us.

“I have talked about freshening things up, which is needed to be done, and the sooner we can get stuck into the task ahead the better.

“I know what's needed and I want to be able to do it, to be able to affect it. And that's why from my point of view the sooner the embargo is lifted the better. it’s all very well having players sat there waiting but we know what it’s like, they can sit and sit and if you are not careful they will end up going somewhere else, which i don’t want to happen.

“We’ve done all the preparation – Steve Waggott and i have worked really hard on it – and we’re just waiting to get them in. i’m assured it’s all being taken care of and we can’t wait because i am itching to get going and it will be the first time i have had chance to freshen things up.

“And if we do that we’ll have a right good chance and even come back stronger.”

Need to start acting soon. Is that need to start acting like a football club?

There's always "a lot of work going on behind the scenes" but very little in the way of results with SISU isn't there? Don't expect the embargo to be lifted until the start of the season. By which time we will probably be down to just the kids. Thanks Joy.

You really couldn't blame him if he walked. It can't be doing much for his health. The man has been sold a pup by SISU.

To be honest, although the accounts are unacceptably late being submitted, it only early June so I would lint be expecting Thorn to walk. If it was the end of July or a couple of weeks before kick off and we're still under the embargo then I would understand people saying "well AT said he would walk".

Still early days, although other teams like PNE have already done a lot of reqruiting.

Higgs have not accepted SISU's lowely offer yet. The embargo is part of a series of measures to apply pressure on the council and Higgs, along with rent and redundency notices.

The embargo will be lifted if Higgs acccept a bid. The embargo will then be lifted tas a token gesture to appease the council and show a willing to invest in the team.

All of the above is just an opinion as I am not on the board or involved in the talks so dont know it for a fact.

The embargo will be lifted if they submit the accounts and sign off the budget ............ that actually doesnt mean that the Charity has to sell anything ......... I would think there is a budget done where they dont get the shares. If you ask me this is a bargaining tool employed by SISU & Co

Yes sorry I dont think I explained myself clearly, that is what I am saying. SISU know the budget yet they are not submitting it and are using it as a bargaining tool. Like they are doingwith the rent.

AT is either deluding himself, the fans or both by carrying on as a normal manager would at this time of the season by having a shopping list of available players for next season and all the other pre-season activities.

The fiasco at this club is preventing the accounts being submitted/signed off which is the key to kick start AT's plans BUT it aint gonna happen in time - is it?

The Club/Board/SISU et al must realise that every day that passes these potential targets are getting itchy feet and want some assurances from AT that we intend to
purchase but AT cannot give that.

It's a vicious circle that needs breaking NOW not in "weeks" ahead as publicised - FFS will someone get a grip !!!

He said he was going to walk.

Either he is a fool for believing them again after he made a big fuss at the end of last season about them or there really is something going on behind the scenes. If he was that bothered he would walk.

how long is James Collins gonna sit at home with an assurance from AT that everything is in place.

If he gets a phone call from Huddersfield etc, he will be off.

I bet its already happened to at least one player on AT's list, if not more.

His BANG BANG list can't be much good if these players are lined up and have been sat at home waiting for weeks, and no-one else has got in yet.....:thinking about:

Collins is a cov fan

Pretty much the only reason why he would wait around.

The others must be Thornton, Hall and Dave Bennett

Thorn is either an idiot for believing SISU's bullshit, or he is part of the bullshit brigade.
Either way I cannot see him resigning because future employment opportunities would be limited to being a scout somewhere.

Not that I believe we will be signing new players.
The CET should be asking AT ok players are lined up how many are you expecting to sign 2 or 3 or 10 ?

So he's either stupid or part of SISU's villainy? Neither of which affords him much credit. Thanks for chipping in though. No, really...

When did AT make this I will quit comment and what did he actually say?

Has anyone still got a link to the original story, I missed it completely?

I think he would be more sensible just saying if they give me no signings as it stands, I will do my best to keep the club up but as you have seen before it will be hard.

Some signings, with a bit of luck and hardly any injuries lets see what can happen. I will keep the club up but who knows what else.

If they give me a signing for each player that has left and maybe one or two on top ie a football squad then I am going for the play offs and above and anything else is a failure.

That would be a wiser thing to say than if SISU dont give me signings I quit. He can still do a good job as a manager with no signings its just the goals are different.

The difference is Don, he's spent more than a year working under SISU and should now be a lot more clued up on the way the higher ups are running the club. He says he has been assured that all is being done to file the accounts-he's also said he's been assured of being allowed to 'wheel and deal' (January), to be given a competitive budget in League One (May) amongst other promises which haven't materialised. In my mind, he knows his job security and fan popularity will remain pretty much constant whilst he makes subtle 'digs' at the owners but at the same time vouches for their integrity and remains as manager.

he actually said

"the boys put a shift in"
"we have to be dissapointed losing, after being 1-0 up with 1 minute to go"
"the lads are knackered"
"Belly can on and looked to change the game"
"their keeper played a blinder"
"everyone knows Gary is a Cov kid"
"Juke is stil a cov player"
"Woody has a slght knock and will miss this game"
"the lads are devistated"
"we will go again tomorrow"
"we are looking at one or two options"
"I know they are only 16 years old, but they will be better for the experience"
"Kingy wants to stay with us"
"Ken, what are you doing in the dougout"
"We will look to strengthen in January"
"We will look to sign fresh faces"
"the window might be clsoed, but loan window opens next week"
"The loan window is now closed, we will go wth what we have"
"we are naturally dissapointed to lose at home to doncaster"
"we will dust ourselves off, and come back fitter next season"
"everyone will have to fight for their shirts"
"Keoghey and Craineyey are away at the moment, but they want to stay"
"BANG BANG BANG"
"wheres Steve Harrisoney gone ?"
"Joy, Joy, are you there"

that pretty much brings us up to speed ?

Exactly, it's so predicatble. Come August we will have signed a couple of loanees and a bloke from the local pub team. Thorn will then say "Well yeah it's not quite what I wanted but we're nearly there. It's a great bunch of lads and we're buzzing"

I'm surprised he hasn't walked. He only stayed on, on the condition we do things differently and invest! I've seen no change. If anything, aren't we worse than last pre season? If I remember correctly, we didn't have the embargo this time last yr. we just had a tight board!

yep, a lot worse

a lot of "business" already done in our league, I'd love to see if us and Pompy are the only 2 who havent signed anyone so far

He's in an almost untouchable position-SISU want someone happy to oversee the cost cutting in the squad and willing to take the fall for failure. He gains respect from his managerial peers and others in the game for sticking around in a job with minimal expectations, and he gains respect from the fans for his overwhelmingly positive quotes in the media with the odd dig at SISU (nothing drastic though). This job is quite simply perfect for anyone willing enough to play the role-now I'm not saying he doesn't work hard or try as hard (the fact he combines two jobs at the moment goes against that), but I think he's also aware that whilst things remain the way they are, he's in a no lose situation.

So with what we know about SISU

If AT says that's it I have had enough I will walk. Do you think that this will change SISU's approach. Or do you think it will just leave us with out a manager.

Do you want him to do this to try and change SISU?

I guess it is a tough one what is AT's role be the best as a manager with what he is given or challenge the owners and force them to give him more.

Personally I dont think he will get much sway out of SISU. I also think if he challenges them too much a couple of bad results and as oppose to them saying well actually it is not his fault due to the financial contraints we have put on him. They will just get rid of him

Then maybe we will get Carlsley which some people do seem to want. I however would prefer Thorn at this stage
