Done a great job with Watford with a similar budget to ours last season.

Greg abbot has done absolute miracles at carlisle, practically down when he took over, yet he kept them up (just like thorn did for us) then the next season, carlisle were one of the favourites to get relegated, he got them to top half of table, last season they did well again with a weak side and little money, this season they've started well.
Cov fan, was in cov's academy, would love to manage the club...

But do we need another young manager? No. we need an experienced one that can bring the best out of our players

Can't think of many better realistic options than Dyche to be honest. Plays good football as well from the little I saw of Watford last year.

If true; Greg Abbott or Tisdale should get the nod!

At a push, Robinson from MK Dons would be wicked!

Carsley would be an option but, we went the inexperienced road last time and it didn't go too well.

As long as they keep the diamond, I'm not too fussed...

Thorn out. Come on he is NOT a manager. A Manager with good knowledge and tactics would not have lost a 2-0 lead against BURY TOWN. OUT

I don't even think Thorn can be referred to as 'inexperienced' now. He's had a whole season behind him, along with his first 10 games, and ten this few this season. That's more than some others who seem to be able to manage better than him!

I have stuck up for Thorn the entirety of last season but I am giving him 2 more league games to turn it around, after that I think we need to demote him back to scout and bring in someone else, personally I think Gary Johnson from Yeovil would be my first choice but after that Dyche. Whether SISU will back the team with a manager they have to pay for time will tell but nobody within the club is the answer.

If we were going to get an experienced manager then i would say go for it, but can't see the point if they were just going to hand it to Shaw or Carsley. That wouldn't be progress in MY opinion.

I think you guys will agree that I have always supported Thorn and had quite an argument on here just a day or two ago about supporting him, but I must say that we need an experienced manager to take the helm. We are making the same mistakes as last season. Credit to the guy he has put a cracking squad together, but he just does not have the experience. I would be annoyed if he is not kept on as scout though. He certainly has a good eye for talent.

But sticking with Thorn might bring progress? I'd love to play you at Pontoon (21) , You wouldn't have a chance.

I'm just curious - What do you think he can achieve in 2 games that he hasn't been able to do in his entire time so far?

There comes a point when you are just putting off the inevitable. Had you said 2 months thats one thing but 2 games!

It sounds like you are preying for a miracle!

He should have been sacked last christmas in my opinion, so in fact as far as I am concerned he has been given in excess of 30 games to prove me wrong.

THORN MUST GO TONIGHT!

He's not going to be sacked after just 3 games.

This carries on though and we fail to win in the next few games then I think the fans will force him out rightly or wrongly as they really will turn on him big time.

Hope he goes, and we throw his stale, useless tactics out the window and start again.
Fantastic scout, and I hope that he stays with the club as a scout to support the manager. Some cracking signings this season, but he is tactically poor.

I just think that he has to learn from today's mistakes and quickly rectify them, I said 2 league games because that gives him the cup matches against Burton and Brum as well to fine tune. By the end of those 2 league matches we may already be a bit adrift from the top and if we do end up more than 9 points from 6th place Then I think we will struggle for the rest of the season.

I think we give him a bit longer as well to get the squad used to being the big dogs that like today, smaller teams arent going to stop coming for us and will push 110% for the entire match so they cant afford to switch off even for 10 minutes.

would be interesting to see if he "steps down" and goes back as a scout and takes a small pay off, or if he leaves the club

As a Thorn backer today has shaken my confidence, but the question as to who will replace him is valid.

If the current back room staff have better ideas why aren't we hearing them now?

I'd have Gary Johnson or anyone with a track record.

IMO, not really. There is little evidence of perfect manager recruitment. "Track record" candidates fail (Reid), "up-and-comers" hit setbacks (Gary Johnson), inexperienced throw-ins do quite well (Nilsson). Try almost anyone - you never know who will fit.

Who knows how the chain of command works at the training ground? Atkinson's assistant eventually bested him, as did McAllister's. It can and does happen.

If i had a load of new starters working on my team I would think it was unrealistic and rather unfair that I got binned after such a short time of finding a way of getting them to work together.
The team may look better on the training pitch than the field so Thorn has to see who is translating to the games better, hard to judge after a few weeks
