A bad workman blames his tools.

You could be given the man united team and you would get them relegated! Go now with the little pride you have.

Forget the excuses. .. you should have gone after 15 games.

From what I've seen this season he's got a load of tools.

I was referring to the 'he's doing the best anybody could do with kids'. I've heard that so many times over the past season and we'll never know, but if hes the best out there, no wonder English football is fooked.

No there are of course better managers out there but WE cannot afford them, so he is the best out there that we can buy!

If anything should change I think you should look at Harrison, since he has been here we have been unable to compete on any sort of level, and why has he been kept when managers have been sacked, he was drafted in by people that are no longer here, take him out of the club, and we may be able to play for 95 mins, Thorn should be given support of the board, money to invest in the squad, get rid of the dead wood, start again !!!!!!!

without a doubt Marty of course there is.

I like Thorn as a bloke, i like his style of play and there are questions about whether he has had a fair crack of the whip given the constraints but i would sooner take a more experienced manager who has been down in league one and got teams promoted but the reality is that we do not have a pot to piss in and therefore we need to stop whinging about Thron and get behind him. One thing is for sure next season, if the fans done back the team we will be in bigger trouble than we think.

Is Sven still looking for a job? Very experienced manager. How about other experienced managers that failed this season that had money to spend?

Looking at just today then Thorn deserves some sympathy. He was down to the bare bones and used more new kids for the first time, though clearly it was obvious he would throw them on at some stage for the experience alone.
What I see with these kids though is talent. They could end up being the most confident youngsters in the football league, certainly those like Clarke and Bigi who have handled themselves brilliantly and impressed.
The future is bright. We just need one or two additions and we may have ourselves a very strong bunch in league 1.
They know how to play football, we outplayed the Saints for most of the first half but as always we had no end product. Cody ran his socks off at a lost cause by himself but he will bag plenty in league 1.
I would prefer a change of manager though or maybe better still a new coach who can help Thorn in a more responsive way. Harrison seems to be a big negative at our football club. Not sure he and Thorn share the same philosophy?
He made enough mistakes Thorn throughout the season that in the end we went down for quite apart from be hampered by SISU's lack of support.
Get rid of Harrison who looks far more culpable for recent season's under successive managers than anyone else and replace him with a coach who shares Thorn's philosophy of football and then lets back Thorn with a bit of money and we may, we just may have an exceedingly good season.
Piece of cake!

I do believe that Harrison's contract expires at the end of this season

I haven't offered any replacements, you can keep naming names if you like...

Thorn is tactically naive, I think most would agree, we stuck with a formation that didn't suit the players and wasn't working, we decided to play tipy-tapy football that didn't suit our midfield or front line, I think we would still be in this division if we played more to the strengths of the attacking players. The ball should have been lumped to Platt & Lukas, who could have knocked it down to the on rushing midfield, we took to long to attack, we didn't stretch teams at vital times, in general we made it to easy to defend against us, we don't have a clinical goal scorer, so the only option is to stretch teams and supply the likes of Platt & McSheffrey 5-10 chances a game, Subs weren't made when needed, lost games in the final few minutes due to a lack of gamesmanship (i.e time wasting, slowing down the game with subs, etc.). Just my opinion, if you don't agree, then that's fine but for me these are errors that lay at the Thorns door and a more experienced manager would have addressed this.

Thorn will be offered a new job in the Championship. If you go down you lose your best players, why should we expect a manager of his calibre to stay

Marty you make very good points and 90% of the comments about Thorn are correct.
However, he also showed during the season when it worked it was both effective and attractive football.
I too would like a replacement with a more experienced manager but that is not so easy. There are a few and I'd take them ahead of Thorn.
I do think though there may be good cause to suggest Harrison has a large part to play in our downfall and if he goes and Thorn gets the right coach behind him (like an Eric Black type figure) then Thorn's ability to improve and recognise his faults and undoings may correct themselves 10 fold.

Totally accept that he does the best of a bad job and I don't blame him for our relegation however I think we now need a fresh start. AT looks and sounds like a beaten man and I think the experience of this season has left its mark on him. What about a joint Richard Shaw and Lee Carsley ticket if there is no money for an established manager?

Agreed. I'd be surprised if Thorn was offered another League job especially as our recent big name managers such as the likes of Adams, Reid and Boothroyd have not even managed to get anything bigger than League 2 lately.

If Thorn disagrees strongly with the way the club is being run he should at least offer his resignation.

Fact. You wouldn't put the tea boy on the board.

At a time (before the season started) when the club was already at threat due to stripping of our best players and tiny squad size. ..most football clubs would seek an experienced manager o settle the boat and re-build.

Instead we recruit a complete novice.

That's like allowing the trolly dolly to fly the plane.

And hey astute if I'm a tool .... I'm your wifes!

Your obviously on a wind up Macca. Look, I accept that Thorne has not had the back-up in terms of finance this season that perhaps he should have had BUT even with the required funds I doubt that he would have made a better job of it. I come to this conclusion on the evidence which I have; namely his after-match interviews. He could not motivate me to get out of bed in the morning.

Thorn has tried his best but his best isn't good enough. We haven't played well for 90 minutes all season, how many more chances does he want to sort this problem out. I dont think he is capable. These players need a rocket shoving up their arse and Thorn is not the man to do it.

His man management of experienced players is poor there is no argument. The real problem for him will be that a lot of fans have turned a blind eye to his glaring limitations due to the ownership issue. This has helped him by making him a victim. "AT has been dealt a bad hand" is the phrase often used. Well, next season some fans will actually have unrealistic expectations the other way. Real management starts today. Good luck AT because you're going to need it.

Let's see how many are saying that by Christmas. The backing issue will have gone. Our wage bill is one of the biggest now in the league we are in. Fans will expect an instant return.

He is too soft to be a manager, i think he best suits being a coach i dont think he has got that edge to be the top dog. He wants to put an arm round the players all the time. Players would not fear thorn and you need that.

Thorn needs to go , how could this buffoon inspire any player with his dreary rumblings . Tactically inept . Would prefer Adams , Dowie , Coleman or Boothroyd over him next season !
