COVENTRY City boss Andy Thorn said the fans' post match reception after the Sky Blues goalless draw with Reading at the Ricoh Arena has made him even more determined to help the club succeed.

City got a rapturous applause from the Sky Blue Army as they did a lap of appreciation for their 20,000 strong support after picking up a well-earned point against a Royals side who have now confirmed their play-off status.

"Going into the game today with Reading flying high we knew it would be a good test for us and it was," he said.

"We feel we want to pit our wits against the best teams, Brian McDermott is a good manager and I wish Reading all the best in the play-offs.

"I thought we coped with them admirably. It's the first time we haven't scofred since we took charge but it was an all round entertaining game with some really good football played.

Thorn also singled out young goalkeeper Michael Quirke for praise after he stepped into the fold to replace injured Keiren Westwood, earning his first professional clean sheet in the process.

"Young Quirky did well. He was very confident, he kicked well and pulled off a couple of cracking saves in the first half. But we had some good chances as well, we got in there a few times and their keeper pulled off some good saves as well."

Speaking about the summer ahead Thorn also said he would be trying to keep his current crop of players together.

"We feel we've got a good group of players and we want to keep everybody, hence the contract offers and as long as we can do that it will be onwards and upwards.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge here, I've never ducked out of a challenge in my life and after experiencing that reception after the match from the fans it's just made me even more determined."

I think contracts have been offered to the players he sees are KEY to the clubs future as result the big 3 + the 4 kids have been offered contracts. After todays game Quirke will be offered a simular contract to Clarke and Cameron! The others im not so sure about. Carso didn't walk around the pitch at the end did he?

Ccfcway, i think they are trying to tie down the important ones first then seeing what we have left in the wages kitty.

Regards keeping the names mentioned, i think the only ones who will / shud get contwct are Quirke, Ireland, and possibly Carsley, unless we sign a younger player in the mould of him.

O'halloran and ozzy are too injury prone, and Mcindoe just hasnt cut it with ccfc (not entirely his own fault)

Really hope Quirke plays alot in pre-season cause I wanna see more of him, he was fantastic today, fooled me into thinking he was Westwood until the second half. Was a great atmosphere today from the blocks 15, 16 and 17... shame Reading fans were diabolical, and they didnt even start the wave we wanted

he did well but im not sures hes good enough for a promotion chasing team, hes quite short for a keeper too

the big 3 need signing, we need to build around them 3,craine,keogh and juke imo

the rest should get a chance to show if their worth it under thorn

time will tell...

carsley was pitch side by the dug out during the warm up for the scunthorpe game. That was the last time i saw him. He was all dressed smartly in his ccfc clobber. Have not got a clue where his future lies...
