They're probably planning for if bart verbruggen goes in the summer. Rushy won't want to be a bench warmer or even a 3rd place keeper and I suspect when signing his contract extension he had visions of playing at least 1 league game for Brighton. It's now 8 years into his career with them and has 2 stints in u21/23 & 6 loans out.
We keep hearing how he's "one for the future" but considering he's actually older than verbruggen its like his whole career path with Brighton is dependant wholly on someone else rather than his own merit.
Must be frustrating, but at same time can see why he's came here & and fell in love with the place, we're offering everything he probably wanted at his home club in spades.
Rushworth sadly hasn't listened when they say "never fall in love with a loan player club"
TLDR:
1. Brighton would probably want him back if.....
2. Rushworth would probably prefer it here if....
He's only got a year left on his contract at the end of the season. (Brighton may have an extra year option). If he hands a transfer request in as he wants to be No1 we all know player power wins 9 times out of 10. He won't displace Verbruggen who is excellent and younger than him so he's a No2 at best at Brighton
