@Fergusons_Beard, if that was an attempt to piss on peoples chips, I'm about to crap in the middle of their steak pie.

It has nothing to do with the personnel, it's the tactics we employ that are letting us down. Personally, the team is fine. We have quality in each position.

But we are so slow at buildup, we're allowing opposition teams to fall back and effectively park the bus. Huddersfield last night was proof in point. We should have been able to carve them to bits but there was zero room for players to move in to. We seem to have reverted to making 10 passes when 1 or 2 is all that we need. Even when we get the ball into advanced positions, midfielders were second guessing themselves, often resulting in misplaced passes. That isn't good entertainment for the fans and that was noticeable last night with very little noise coming across from the Sky broadcast.

Giving the opposition time to regroup gives Simms/Wright and Godden zero room to exploit. We know the new guys have pace yet if defenders are given enough time to have a teamtalk, any chances are nullified. Get Simms or Wright in a race with a single defender, they will beat them. Saka tried against their FB but with one or two exceptions, he'd get into a good position but almost always passed backwards.

I'm not advocating for a return to last seasons counterattacking chaos but we need a happy medium between that and what we are currently using. Evolution was needed as the players we have are not Hamer/Gyokeres clones but we've gone too far in the opposite direction. Using Man Utd as an example, under Fergie, they used to long ball of defence up to the half way line or beyond and then when the oppo defenders were turned, they built from there, using the spaces created by the sudden change in direction of play.

if he was here under false pretences, why did it take so long for Robins to employ him ? We lost the last "good" lot to Blackpool two or three years ago. Why didn't he get approached then ?

He came to us injured. Maybe Robins doesn't want to risk him when we have so many who can cover that role ?

I actually don’t mind him baldy think he’s a good player but again, no real methodology behind him and where he plays

I sound like a broken record, poor recruitment

would rather us have signed another proper rwb that guess what

fits how we play

How do we play currently? Not being funny but I've seen it said a lot about players not fitting our system yet we haven't played to any sort of system consistently this season

Like has been stated a few times he has played wb , winger and am at previous clubs .
Was a strange signing I'll give you that but he's been one of the few players that have been worth watching so far this season

Agree with most of this but I don't think it's a deliberate tactic to move the ball so slowly, we just don't really have the players to pass with tempo & purpose consistently at the moment. When Huddersfield put the midfield under pressure last night they reverted to type; safe sideways passing or aimless lumps up to nobody.

With a midfield of Kelly, Eccles & Palmer; the first 2 aren't naturally creative types & whilst Palmer looks to make things happen he's not really good enough to do it on a consistent basis & he's now injured anyway.

The inability to hold on to the ball & pass with purpose is making the forwards look worse than they really are & also puts pressure on the defence as we're spending considerable parts of the last few games on the back foot.

We really are relying on Allen & Ayari to get up to speed quickly & make a positive influence until Sheaf & O'Hare are back fit & firing.

Don’t really disagree with much of that HM.

But we are 5 first team players light of what our team should look like.

After 7 games we’ve still plenty of time.

Only 5 points of the play offs!

I see the sideways slow tempo stuff as more dangerous simply because it invariably leads to the ball being lost in a more dangerous area.

Only lost 9 points from winning positions compared to regaining one from a losing position. Should be 8 points better off and 7 of those points were chucked by MR’s changes. 5 if we’re being kind last night.

I don't know what the odds are of us making the playoffs again this season, but I'm pretty sure they're nowhere near the same as you spontaneously materialising in Borneo.

Personally speaking, I think it's far too early to say how this season pans out.

If I had absolute belief that there was no chance of us making the playoffs then I'd go right now and bet on that outcome with every penny I could spare. At least that way I'd get a decent payoff to reduce the pain.

Everything will be OK.

Before the season started I predicted we would need 8 to 10 games before we started playing as a team. The players don't know how each other prefer to play. And we also have to play a totally different system. So even the players we retained didn't know our new system.

We have also played some of the more difficult games so far. I have read on here how poor our opponents are. But in reality it's different. Huddersfield? Before we played them they had won 2 and drew 1 of the previous 3 games including an away win at WBA. Individual mistakes have cost us.

Kitching will be a good addition to our side when fit. It should make us more solid. O'Hare another bonus if he gets his fitness back. It isn't all doom and gloom. Last season 3 of the top 6 sides were near the bottom of the table at this stage. Teams near the top finished in the bottom half. It's a marathon not a sprint.

Really hope you’re right…I can’t recall an overhaul of the team on this scale since Bobby Goulds rebuild…but that started off very nicely before it went bad. So let’s hope the opposite happens to MRs rebuild.

Players can take time to settle in and get used to the system used.

Gyokeres took time. Many thought he was a waste of money. That dated well. Hamer was also a waste of money because he was a liability.

Football is an emotional sport and emotions can take over from reality. Once Simms and Wright get a couple the confidence will be a game changer.

The finish to the season isn't from where we're starting from, not the finishing place.

But it's obvious what I mean, surely!

Precisely. Gareth Southgate creates the same problem for England. Possession football is good but the ball still needs to go forward quickly.

You say that but we probably should’ve seen off wins v Watford, Hull and Huddersfield which would put us into 3rd or 4th. We’ve had a lot of turnover with a new squad to bed in and at 10 games in, we look steady with a lot of improvement needed. Overall, with some reinforcements in Jan or the summer we’ll kick on for sure.

yes but if the “lot of turnover “ took time to “bed in”, another round of recruitment will cause more disruption in January.

I get the need for a midfielder but there is good reason to have limited recruitment in the next window

We were the most direct team in the league last season and that was undoubtedly driven by Hamer and his passing. That’s what we’re really missing and the one weakness in our recruitment is the CM replacement for Hamer.

Wright and Simms look good when we’re direct and they’re running onto to the ball. The slow buildup isn’t optimal for them and my guess is that we’ll be much better when that area is addressed.

I wouldn’t force the issue, and it depends where we’re at in the league. If our targets are available at a good price we should absolutely get them in January.
