Statistically Coventry City have had a better start to the 23/24 season than that of 22/23 & 20/21

23/24 season also see’s our best scoring start

Only the 21/22 season tops it when the Sky Blues bust out the blocks winning 5/7

from @skyblueStats (X)

So the first Hamer championship season we were worse than this year. Can’t remember any bed wetting then but there was a lot of realisation that our first year in the championship would be a tricky one.

Had we spent £20m on players in either of those seasons?

Last season was a complete anomaly, the comparisons are pointless.

What's the defensive stats like? How about how many points lost from winning positions? What about the amount of goals we concede in the last 15 minutes.

The same people praising us are the same people that would take their wife back after she had an affair. Deluded.

No, but to be fair we had two of the top 20 best ever Championship footballers.

And we’ve scored more goals this season without the £25m striker at this point …….

Let's be honest though, we're highly unlikely to have anywhere near as good a finish as last season, ever again really. That really was the exception.

I find that a strange assumption to be fair as you never know in football . Last season I thought we were doomed after selling Hyam and then Hamers long ban but we turned it round .
Don't think it will happen this season but you can't assume anything in football

Well we do though, we know that the likelihood of us having a similar finish to the season is very low.

This has been well documented already.

I think the bigger concern is that we look someway off a decent team right now rather than the absolute points we have collected to date.

Playing devil's advocate, so tongue firmly in cheek, but is that not a plus? Aren't we always told that getting points even when playing shit is what good teams ultimately do?

So far the Hull result is the only one where we’ve bettered the result from last season, correct?

I make it that we’re currently 5 points worse off than last season in the equivalent fixtures.

Comparisons in terms of the m ‘well we were shit to start last season too and we made the play-offs so we’ll be fine this season’ shite that people are coming out with, but you knew that of course.

Jeez I think some on here think we played like Brazil last season !
We were still very scrappy at times and managed to hold on on many games despite having dreadful possession stats

It's amazing what momentum and confidence does to a group of players , and we have neither currently but let's not be blinded by last season's style of play

Equivalent fixtures vs opposition as opposed to same number of games as this time last season.

Can’t say that and have a sense of realism on here

hopefully we save our season with some actual proper recruitment in January

hopefully Dean Austin is out the door by then

I know, but comparing equivalent fixtures is a pointless exercise given most teams have a very different makeup to last season (not to mention 6 of them are literally entirely different clubs altogether!)

Love your endless long term view mate

If the club listened to your opinions we'd have about 6 players left in the squad and a new manager by now

It isn't for the very reason you say - it shows the relative strength of teams compared to last season and how we progress or regress compared to them.

That's literally what the league table is for!

I couldn't care less how we fared v Hull or Cardiff last season, it's totally irrelevant to this seasons performance.

Not saying get rid of robins yet

you say long term view?

I just don’t think half the signings are good at football

think Milan Joel, jay and Simms will be good acquisitions

Kitching jury’s out haven’t seen him

Thomas and wright look poor, Ayari looks lost

Wright does look poor after a reasonably bright start against Leicester and Boro he seems to have lost all confidence .
Ayari is a very young lad still learning the game , he has talent but needs coaching and I think he will come good .
Thomas just looks ropy , one moment he's calm and assured next he's erratic

No, that compares position after a certain number of games, it doesn't take into account quality of opposition during those games etc so sometimes you need a different way of lookin g at things than the black and white.

Bet you wouldn't be so pointlessly argumentative if it showed we were doing better against those teams than last season...

(And FWIW it's why I stopped doing such a comparison on GMK, because it gets rather tedious trying to explain to those who refuse to see there are ways of seeing)

I'm not being pointlessly argumentative and I'm not trying to prove any point other than that poster did exactly what you're accusing me of - using one comparison because it backs his viewpoint while calling another comparison pointless because it doesn't suit his viewpoint.

Is there anything in the rumour that Dean is a mate of Robins, rather than actually a recruitment specialist?

At the end of the day we have lost our two best players from last season. At least half the players in the starting eleven are new. It is early days and most games so far we should won rather than got a draw

Now those two best players, Hamer and Gyokeres, neither hit the ground running when they joined the club.

Hold on to your hats and curb your expectations. We will come good. Nobody said "the journey' was over one season.
