I think the clubs on an upwards trajectory even in the stands , with this sustained optimism even without promotion , you'd have to imagine we will be averaging 22000 as a regular over the next couple years .. should we be promoted well then it's a full house.

Great to see

7 of the last 8 home matches will be over 20,000

Currently a lower average than last season. The Birmingham game should take us to just under 20k per game. Beating last season

Current average is 19,940. Last season was 19,541, so we're already higher

Hope so. But it’s not happening. 32k attendance needed to reach those figures. But as you say, things are on the up. The 2nd part of the season has been impressive.
Last season ave 19541

IIRC, we'd sold something like 22k for Rotherham a day or so before the game - and were probably expecting a decent walk up on a sunny August day.

Thanks to the f*ckwits at Wasps, we ended up with under 19k when we eventually managed to play the game.

Where did you get your figures from? Interesting if it’s better.

From here Sky Bet Championship | Average Attendances | Home Matches | Football Web Pages

One of the websites out there has the Blackpool game incorrectly recorded as 8k crowd, so its reducing the average

Thats the website with the error. If you go into our results on there it shows the Blackpool game with the wrong crowd

Coventry City - Blackpool FC 1:2 (Championship 2022/2023, 18. Round)

If you compare to other clubs, we are doing pretty well.

Leicester between 2010-2014 average 23k a season.

Birmingham between 2012-2018 averages ranged from 15,400 to 17,603.

Middlesbrough between 2010-2015 average between 16,200 and 19,500.

None of those clubs had years of ground shares or relegations to the bottom tier in the previous years either.

Without wanting to put too much of a negative slant on it.... if we don't progress, and spend a couple of seasons in the same position as merely "playoff contenders" (which i'd personally be more than satisfied with), then we are likely to level off or even decline slightly (in my opinion of course).

We were on our great pre-World Cup run and QPR were right up at the top - plus the last chance to see us play for 5 (?) weeks

The start of this season and the attendances back this up. Success and a bit of luck mean that crowds increase and may level off. If for example; we get promoted and then come down we would retain ST holders and a fair few others besides. Consistency in success or failure has an impact.

If our current average is 19,940, we need a crowd of 21,320 to take that over 20k average.

Going by sales it's likely to end up an average of around 20,300.

This could be the norm going forward?

The cancelled Saturday games being moved to midweek would have negatively impacted this seasons attendance too...

That's because the club tried to control where the "singing" areas would be.

But football grounds aren't like that. They're organic, they have to evolve their own atmosphere
