I don't buy this guessing theory. The fact remains at the business end of the season teams wobble and are inconsistent. Some stay strong but once you close the gap they look over their shoulders with fear.
Look what's happened to Bournemouth since they were top?
Brentford lost to a poor side today whereas we won at a similar side.

Yeovil, Brentford and Bounemouth all drop points today we did not.
It can be argued if we need 7 wins then maybe Brentford or yeovil will only gain 3 wins between now and the end so we won't need 7 wins?

All I'm saying is the pressure now is significant. Forest are showing exactly what to do when others fail to get points you make sure you get some.

We still have brentford to play too btw

Possibly, we are the ones who have past history of cracking under the pressure though.

The 6th place team is averaging 1.69 points, which will equate to 77-78 points over a season. So its likely we will need another 20-22 points.

I don't think any pressure is on us....there's no expectation on us as we've come from the bottom up. The pressure is on the top 6 not to bottle it.

I think we're in a good position....we're the team that's 'breathing down others necks.

It's likely we will need 6 wins. There are a load of points picked up by relegation threatened teams at this stage of the season. Who knows? Considering our atrocious start, we've had so many opportunities to break the top 6. It would be bloody typical if we broke in on the final day of the season..

It could go down to the wire with the Notts County game?

Coundon, your stat is meaningless. It's what happens next not what they have done.

31 points dropped and a truly horrendous home record are what make it seem so unlikely. Pompey have ended their winless streak today, Hartlepool's form has surged under Hughes, and Donny will be very tough too.

Portsmouth ended their winless streak the game before today.

I think we will need 74 points to be in with a shout.

That's 6 wins.

I stand corrected-2 wins on the bounce for them then.

TBF yes certainly you could say 5 or 6 wins should be putting us in there with a good chance as we play a couple of top 6 teams yet and the pressure is on for those looking over their shoulders.
Makes me all the more annoyed at last weeks 3 point loss at home!
Clearly will depend on others not just ourselves but we need to do our bit.
Get the wins at home and I think the rest will take care of itself...

Yeah I think that's a hit more realistic than 77-78 points. Still a lot to do, and still only an outside chance.

No its not, its simple mathmatics.

If the current team in 6th place begins to drop points then someone else will just replace them.

It is heading for 78 points, it will not vary on that within 4 points. Save this thread and rub my nose in it at the end of the season if I'm wrong.

If we win more than half the games left we will finish top six

We need 6 from 9 IMO so more than half Steve

If only they cud have held on for a point at least vs Swindon. Could prove costly

it's about timing - Yeovil stormed up the table but are now stuggling to stay in the PO spots - we're in touch with all 4 teams in the play-off positions and need one or two to flounder - of course we need to find our own consistency first, that's the main hurdle

I don't know about that, do you mean this seasons past history, or the clubs history over the last decades ?
This season we won matches at the death in the JPT and league,i know we have lost some at the death also ,i just think its a bit unfair to say we crumble under the pressure in general

Bornemouth & Brentford recent form is poorer than ours, though Walsall is better, just hope that we can catch up in time and Walsall form tails off... it will be a close call..

Yeah but it was higher than that previously. Teams are now feeling the pressure and dropping more points than they were.

The only target we should have is winning the next game. The rest will sort itself out if we do that.

Just looking at Tuesdays fixtures plenty of the top 8 are playing each other so cant all win.

Massive week this week, two VERY winable home games.
Win both and we could find ourselves in the top six this time next week.

Paxman, look back over the last 10-15 years at Statto. Most of the time, the sixth spot sees an increase in point average between now and the end of the season. Pressure, choking ... doesn't really stand up to scrutiny.

The stat is hardly meaningless. There is zero evidence of decline in form of the top 6 or looking another way an increase in our points ratio.

We have not made any ground on the top teams for weeks.

What had gone before shows we lack sufficient quality to make the top 6

Think we will need 73 points or over for the playoffs. So 5 wins and 2 draws will do it!
