Ok, so at sometime over the past few days I think I have picked up a virus on my laptop as every time I come on this forum an advert automatically comes up in the "quick response" response box and if I click into the box it is basically a link that takes me to a website.

In order to be able to post I have to click either the remove format or switch editor button otherwise I can't. I have ran a virus scan but it is not picking up anything and I have uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome but it is still doing the same.

Any ideas on how to get rid?

Ta

Have you got any restore points on your machine? Go back and restore from an earlier point and time if you have.

Otis - looked at that but the only restore points are from yesterday and the day before so no good as it was on there then.

Nick - cheers I'll give that a go and see what happens!

Back on thread the Malware seems to remove "add ons" from Chrome everytime I run it and now when I log in here there isn't an advert in the reply box but it still come up partially filled with a white box (like when an advert was there) and I still have to click the switch editor button to post.

Bar running Malwarebytes every time I turn my laptop on, which I am doing anyway, any other suggestions how to rid of whatever is on my computer?

try running it in safe mode or fully removing the chrome plugin

Does it say which it is?

Ok it looks like something to do with this:

Ad.directrev.com

I have downloaded adwcleaner and ran this which flagged and deleted two folders and deleted all my extensions in chrome but now its worse in that the actual ads are back instead of just the white block.

Is it time to hit it with a hammer yet?

Definitely install ad-blocker. Seems to 'suppress' all those malware strains coded into pop-up adverts on download sites and *ahem* other recreational sites.

I do recommend Malwarebytes to purge your system of lurking nasties, and to be honest, for Antivirus and Firewall protection, I alternate between the best 30 day trial versions.

Have a good clean out of your hard drive too, if you can. Actually only now have I realised this thread is over 8 months fecking old...oh well.
