Ugh this one riles me the most! My housemate uses this about Liverpool because they finished 7/8th for a couple of seasons.

- My uncle owns a pub round the corner from Old Trafford.
- My brother supported them so I has no choice.
- I'm happy to pay £65 a ticket because I can only get tickets once a year.
- I hope we sign Ribery in the winter.
- He's a good goalkeeper so £25 million is great value.

I could go on for days.

Honestly this one is valid for man city. If you supported them when they were shit fair enough, because when someone says they support man city these days glory hunter pops into your mind.

I hate that they can't stand their chosen team's local rivals cos it's what you do.

Lived with a Man U fan before City were big time and he'd comment that my cov tops looked to much like "Man Shitty". He was from Hastings.

Me: How come you support a club that's not where you were born?!

Glory fan: Yea, but I've supported *insert v successful team* since I was 7.

Me: c**t.

Me: Nahhh it’s Cov v [whoever], I’m listening to that.

Housemate: What? Why?

Me: ...because it’s my team

I used to love telling the plastic Liverpool and Man Utd supporters that I worked with that I’d seen their teams more than all of them combined. This was usually in response to the general piss taking about Cov, it used to wind them right up.

Another one of their favorites was claiming that only PL ‘fans’ know the most about football as it was the best quality - wtf.

The funniest was one of them trying to claim that the top flight started in ‘92.

Depressingly the year that Leicester won the title I saw a little boy wearing a Leicester shirt in a remote Sicilian village, definitely a kick in the teeth that one

I've always followed Liverpool's results. I'm not what you'd call a fan or supporter but I've always enjoyed watching them play ever since the days of the likes of Heighway, Rush, Clemence, Dalgleish, St John, Emlyn Hughes etc. I really don't give a shit what people think. My first love is and always will be Coventry City FC.

I live near blackpool and lived here most my life but was born in cov. When they say do you like football i say yeah followed by them asking who i support. Cov. They smirk and say thought you said you liked football followed by a smirk. Instantly know they support United. Tbf I've actually found Liverpool fans the easiest of the lot. They seem to be the most knowledgeable of that group and especially when I go to liverpool the amount of people who will actually engage and talk about cov ...ah yeah i remember going highfield road a lot etc or mentioning past players. Its pretty good.

Housemate: *runs into kitchen* OMG DID YOU WATCH MAN CITY V SPURS?!

Me: Nope but I saw the BBC report, looked good

Housemate: WHAT?! What were you watching instead?

Me: Nothing, I’ve got a lot of work to do and couldn’t be arsed to stream it

Housemate: MATE! 4-3, one of the best matches of all time

Me: Oh please, it wasn’t even the best game this week. We beat Sunderland 5-4 on Saturday!

The general obsession with transfers and fees is a key defining characteristic. They also tend to parrot TV pundit clichés more than anybody else.

Yeah, all about deadline day. No idea about any transfers done in the rest of the window.

Could have spent hundreds of millions but want it to be about the last day because sky sports hypes it up

Look, I hate Leicester as much as the next man but kicking a young boy in the teeth for wearing a Leicester top isn't on.

Thing is HH we can all appreciate good teams and players from the comfort of being a neutral. This idea that people want their team to always be shit so they can brag about being a keeno has never made much sense to me.

Since moving here I keep forgetting that people I work with/meet probably have legitimate reasons for following Man United as the stadiums only about 5 or 6 miles away.

“I didn’t know Giroud played for Chelsea, when did he go there?”

Said by someone a few months back. Someone who claims Arsenal is his team...

My brother in law is a Londoner who has supported Arsenal all his life. He came up for a few days so I took him to the Ricoh to watch City v Wimbledon.
He laughed at the advertising hoardings because they were local, not for some big multi national company. It's not something i'd ever really noticed. I realised then these people think differently to normal footy supporters.

I would have thought a lifelong Arsenal fan might remember the pre Nick Hornby Arsenal which was a club with generally working class support, not the morons that frequent the new stadium.

Could you imagine me supporting a club like FC Baarn or FC Utrecht? :emoji_stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Not saying as such, but when you know Man Utd/Chelsea/Liverpool/Arsenal/Man City/Spurs etc are on Sky/BT but you see the 'fans' wear onof said clubs' shirts out and about so not making an effort to watch.

Really fucks me off!
