It went to a league vote on whether to remove us. Whilst in Northampton there was a rule we had to be a certain mileage form the city centre

the reason we sold Clarke was because wolves tapped him up. We weren’t under threat to sell him. We had Murphy, Christie, Baker on Championship wages - we had a bigger wage bill than a lot of teams whilst averaging 2k

He was - but he’d signed a new contract in the championship. He was one of our better players when we got relegated

A lot of the outrage on here (and i'm not saying it isn't partially justified), is simply because its Leicester.

Nobody would give a toss if it was anyone else..... there's not been much gnashing of teeth about Forest who (i assume) recieved a points deduction as they were found guilty, yet still stayed up..... proof that cheating can pay off.... that is the biggest disgrace of last season for me.
I'm pretty sure that there are more shenanigans involved.
Sure I read somewhere that the EFL were looking at sanctions but Leicester refused to play ball and submit what the EFL wanted. I'm sure the talk around why they couldn't touch Leicester was due to their misdemeanors being "in the premiership"
But now due to their extension of accounting year, which they allegedly wouldn't share with the EFL, it now turns out the Premier league can't touch them because at the point of submission of the accounts they held a Championship share!!!!!!!
More than just "because it's Leicester!"

We sold Maddison on the cheap to try and meet the rules. If we had waited another couple of weeks then we’d have got more for him. Barnes and Dewsbury Hall both went for less than they were worth.

If you want to kick off it should be at the rules that are in place to protect the big six.
You could have a go at Everton who should have been deducted points the season they overspent which would have seen them down and us stay up.

We missed out twice on CL football by coming 5th. Had Man City been charged earlier …….

We have had some breaks with decisions over the years but we weren’t in a position for promotion by cheating when we went bankrupt. We were more than ten points clear so if the deduction had existed we would still have gone up.
Had you been anywhere near the top of a table at a similar time then perhaps you’d have a history of winning things like us.
You’ve just decided that even though you, allegedly, don’t care about us that you’ll sit and be jealous and snipe rather than realise who the true villains are.
Nice to see there are still some decent posters on here.

no jealousy here, the two clubs were pretty close before your owners, and arguably would be again if they left.

Some of the anger is undoubtedly ‘local rival’ stuff, and the rules are shite, yeah- but however you want to dress it up you do have a track record for this stuff.

Not sure how jokes about dead people and inbreds are linked, but if it's ok with you then posting on a faceless forum doesn't embarrass me in the slightest.

it’s just all so tiring isn’t it? Clubs moving players/money around to “sister clubs”, owners selling non football related assets to other companies they own/work with, or inflating sponsorships by using their own companies to cheat financial rules.

Football has quickly become a game decided at a legal level rather than pitch side and it seems like the Premier league themselves are several steps behind the clubs. I’m not too far from packing the whole lot in to be honest.

Relegation happens because of more than 1 game, and actually crowd congestion causing slower queues to get in meaning nowhere near everyone was in on time for kick off meant it was pushed back, if they didnt lose they would have stayed up so its not on us
You’re the real cheats round here, you, Forest, Man City, Chelsea

Everton and Forest carried on signing players and stayed up.
We didn’t sign any players in January 2023 and got relegated.
Strangely you’re more upset about us than you are about Everton or Forest and still claim you don’t care about us.

What an odd defence. Everton and Forest both broke the rules and got punished. You broke the rules and have seemingly got away with it by changing your accounting period. Who do you think fans of any club would be more annoyed with?

All the EPL/EFL clubs signed up to the rules in place. Why do you feel it's ok to for the vast majority of clubs to adhere to the rules, but you don't? And again, pointing elsewhere and saying 'but, but they cheated too!' isn't a defence.

Pl and EFL are at fault too. No secret that some clubs will bend the rules/try to circumvent them. Leicester's scheme doesn't seem like rocket science and other clubs have done it (maybe not to get around spending rules) so both leagues should have been aware of the possibilities.

It’s all on the premier league/football league. They hastily draft up rules to try and catch out the biggest offender, leaving some pretty glaring loopholes that clubs are savvy enough to exploit (Chelsea contract amortisation/Man City sponsorship doping/various clubs moving around academy players because they’re considered “pure profit” for FFP etc.,). They then move to close that loophole the next season, whilst clubs are on to the next exploit.

The whole thing needs scrapping and starting from scratch with clearly defined rules and transparent reporting from clubs with definitive deadlines that have to be met.

How neither league didn’t know they can’t charge a team that technically wasn’t in their league is absolutely beyond me. It’s a real eye opener how Man City and their army of legal experts have ran rings around them and will continue to do so.

The financial gap between the "slippery six", who were potential super league members and the rest of the PL is getting wider. Added to which to financial gap to the Championship is a massive difference.
The problem for the PL is that any adjustments of the FFP rules will be met by a response from the "slippery six" of we're joining the super league and FIFA club championships. This is potentially more realistic with the recent super league court ruling on competition law.
Hence, clubs in the PL like Forest, Leicester, etc could find themselves with a PL TV deal [once the super league starts] worth something similar to the current EFL one and given their current level of debt..... would their owners continue to fund a club not at the highest performance level?
That could lead to insolvency, so PL supporters gloating over "silver tongued" legal arguments may regret the day they tried to compete with the "slippery six".

If the slippery six want to go off to super leagues, let them. I am heartily sick of domestic competitions being skewed and rigged as European competitions and international competitions get expanded. Champions League must be one of the biggest misnomers in sport. An international break 4 weeks in to the season. Top clubs being seeded and awarded home ”draws” in the Carabao Cup. All wrong

I wonder how many other than the teams supporters would actually tune in to watch. I don’t watch any European competitions (I used to when it was the actual “champions” who were playing). I can’t be arsed with international friendlies or the nations league.

The only part of that I disagree with is the big 6 as its now more like a big 8 or 9 You can certainly add Villa and Newcastle into it, arguably West Ham. Brighton break the mould by good investment and now out preform some of them, but those 9 would all want a seat at the top table and there can only be one winner, which shows most of the investment is laughable and it's really about finance and that European spot rather than winning the league.

I think eventually to stave off a European league, we'll see a are-format. One solution could be cancel the Carabou cup and make 5 leagues (4 of 18 one of 20) with 2 up 2 down (1 + play-off 2 to 5). Even more of a closed shop I get, but arguably with more quality, less games that everyone complains about. We'd likely be a part of a rebranded 'Premiership 2' with an improved revenue split, and I imagine a lot of midlands derbies bar Villa. I'd think Cov, Leicester, Albion, Wolves, Blues, Forest, Derby and Stoke could all realistically be in there.

The late kick off was on the order of West Midlands police. Many Bristol City fans got caught up in the rush hour traffic at the M5/M6 junction in NW Birmingham. Highfield Road could well have been the same as the Hillsborough disaster some years later had the OB not intervened.
As for the story about Sir Jimmy running up the main stand to get the Everton/Mackems result put on the scoreboard ? Absolutely true. I saw him myself from the opposite side of the pitch (in the Sky Blue Terrace) charging up the steps. I dare say that the Sunderland chairman would have done exactly the same.
