I'd agree with that as my mate although diabetic carried on drinking and dropped dead in his mid fifties. But my lad spends far too much money on dope but thinks it's no big deal, even though he's always skint !Wasn't there scientific research that concluded it was alcohol?
I reckon everybody has some form of addiction in their life. Drink, smoking, telly watching, exercise, eating, sex. Then again to some people that list sounds like a good weekend !Any form of addiction that the individual is unable to regulate or control is destructive to their life. The most dangerous drugs in terms of misery and destruction are heroin and alcohol, IMO.

I don't drink or smoke, but I think I would be quite happy watching TV, or people exercise, or people having sex.I reckon everybody has some form of addiction in their life. Drink, smoking, telly watching, exercise, eating, sex. Then again to some people that list sounds like a good weekend !
In my twenties that was a normal week, but now just one of them is enough !hahaha...doesn't sound too bad that!

Shit man I have many addictions, think I was addicted to shagging me sofa as a teen for a while which to be fair has probably led to my masturbating problem or addiction now , I watch porn most days have ocd and I smoke weed healthy through a vape
dont drink though

If only!At least your discreet about it Dan, that's the main thing.......
I agree with your comments as the mind is a powerful thing, but used properly it can overcome all sorts of problems.I too have lost a couple of good mates who lost control of their drinking, they thought they could control it but sadly they either didn't accept they had a problem,or just thought sod it I enjoy drinking so what's it got to do with anybody else ? I like a drink but have eased up over the years,as it was getting me into lots of bother, but I have chosen to do it because I wanted to. Maybe that is the key to addiction, you have to WANT to change ?I've had a lot of experience around addiction, even lost a couple of friends to it. The conclusion I've come to is that it isn't the substance that is the problem it's the person. Some people are able to take incredibly addictive substances and just drop them when they need to whereas some people will get incredibly hooked on mild things and let it ruin them. I think there is a big problem with thinking of drug takers as criminals where it should be treated as a public/mental health problem.
Good discussion in the pub the other day which was ironic seeing we were discussing addictions. One bloke said alcohol is the worst, while another reckoned it was drugs, but then again what about gambling ? I've lost two good mates through drink problems, and my son although he won't admit it has a cannabis habit. In the end any addiction is bad. Any thoughts on this ?
