That was a bit of a good game. No way Argentina should have been close, but fun!

None of the best teams look very bothered about defending.

That was just a bit dramatic wasn't it?

Excellent game and exactly how the knockout stages should be! France should have killed them off and certainly as an England fan it gives me confidence that you can unlock that French defense with an average side!

Yeah. They were afforded too much space today.

When they come up against a much better side I don't think they will be able to be so free flowing.

Always late starters and usually grow into the tournament, they were much improved than the group stages and probably get stronger

Until they come up against the might that is England and Ashley Young, Pickford and Phil Jones.

So it's Europe 1 south America 0 after the first knockout game. What do we think here ? I'm going for Uruguay to level the scores.

Great cross, always good when you see them look first so you know it was intentional rather than just hitting it in the right general area and hoping for the best.

Not so great the rolling round on the floor holding his head.

Not a fan of Suarez but he hasn’t half worked hard for his team tonight.

This tournament is wide open if Brazil get knocked out...they look like a team that might grow as things progress to me.
Spain are a little too inconsistent. Thought they were really good the first game...but have petered out. France too look good. Uruguay look beatable despite their current run of what - 1 goal against in 7 now?
Our side of the draw, I think we will beat Columbia...think we have a good chance against Switzerland...but Sweden will be a harder conest for us. Their style seems to cancel us out usually so that could go either way.
Atm I am thinking we will end up with a France v Croatia final

Firstly it’s hardly surprising our game ended up being what it was. Especially with Martinez’s comments beforehand.

Southgate tried a few things out. He learnt quite a bit from a game that would’ve been good to win but wasn’t a huge disaster if we didn’t. TAA tried his best but is clearly not ready. He should be with the U21s. He’s 19 so there’s nothing wrong with that. Starting Vardy just doesn’t work in the system we play. Use him from the bench. Danny Rose HAS to start from now on. He’s the much better option. Phil Jones is awful. Ok, fair enough, not everything he learnt is new.

With regards to the performance it wasn’t that bad. The game itself was poor but if anything we looked like we wanted the win more than they did. Let’s face it though if Southgate was that desperate for the win he would’ve brought on Kane. We’re in the second round. 6 points and a decent GD. That’s all that matters at the end of the day.

Yeah, agree with most of that for sure.

Agree on Alexander-Arnold, Jones, Rose and Vardy.

Agree with most of that?

You've been crying all week that we didn't win the game and we'll be going out!

Errrm...crying? Seriously??

And when did I say we would be going out? All I said was Japan was the easier game and we could well find Colombia tough.

10 out 10 though for some crazily wild exaggeration.

When you get the kind of atmosphere you can see why Russia have got this tournament but I can’t quite see the Qataris being the same in four years time

Stupid in the extreme. Would have been a penalty if it hadn't have been a goal.
