I like sterling. He had a decent game against Panama (2 assists and best pass completion of the attacking 6). Lacks confidence for England and is playing in a totally unfamiliar role which doesn't suit him. Don't care what he does off the pitch but his season for man city merited his starting place.

He might have merited a starting place for his Man City performances, but we have been waiting 6 and a half years for him to turn it on in an England shirt. He was rated the poorest on the pitch in both games and I cannot disagree with that to be honest. One assist was genuinely good, the other was a complete sitter that he missed and Stones saved his blushes. Other than that I must say I struggled to see where he made an impact against a poor Panama side.

I think we need to play Rashford in the next game, and get him ready for the knock out stages. I suspect if we rely on Sterling in the knock out stages it is going to cause us a problem.

You could say it's 'in vogue' to criticise him which is why there is an equal and opposite reaction.

FWIW I think he's generally been poor for England and should do better, it's obvious he can do it from his season at Man City, but some of the criticism he gets is insane. Going on about a tattoo that is nearly a year old just before a world cup. He's obviously Southgate's first choice and part of a team that's having a very good world cup (so far) so we should be encouraging him. Once he gets that goal things might really turn around for him.

I agree some of the criticism is over the top, but I genuinely don't think he is a good player for England and so far this tournament he has proved me right. I wish it wasn't the case but we have other hungry players desperate to play. I think we should use them.

Depends really. Would you start welbeck over a bloke who got 20 premier league goals because welbeck has a better England record? We've been waiting how long for England to turn it on as team never mind sterling. He deserved his start.

Surprised BBC have gone for the Germany game for BBC 1. Yeah, yeah, know they are world champions etc., but the more intriguing game and more evenly matched game is surely Mexico v Sweden.

Have switched to BBC2. Convinced it will provide the better fare.

Sweden have to win. Mexico need just one point.

Both are going to go for it I think.

Korea could still qualify with a win and Germany will be under pressure for a better performance. I'm on BBC1.

Yeah, but much more of a mismatch I would say and more likely Germany will win that game quite comfortably.

Can I ask if Korea are sitting back a bit and trying to hit Germany on the break? That's what I was expecting, whereas in this game both teams are really going for it.

I just assumed that if the Koreans went for it against the Germans they would get ripped apart.

Koreans seem to have a bit more energy than Germans - looks hot weather (watching with sound off, so as not to disturb !)

Korea have had a few chances in fairness. It's a bit wobbly at the moment but the Germans are just about in control.

Can't say I ever thought I would be cheering for South Korea, but here I am!

Germany definitely aren't looking completely comfortable again, a few decent chances for Korea now

Germans creating lots wide but not finding the final ball. Look stronger but Korea had couple half chances.

I see some fallacies still remain.

Seb Larsson just booked for a high boot and his studs catching the Mexican player on the thigh.

So what was the first thing the Swedish manager kept out from the dugout and said? 'That's his first one! That's his first one!'

Where does this come from that you are always allowed one bad tackle before you are booked?

Interesting to note that this ref booked a player after just 15 seconds.

Germans playing with their heads down, doesn't look like that late win did them any good.

Aren't you confusing them with their friends in the north?

What's wrong with supporting South Korea? They brought us K Pop and The Train to Busan!

Agree! Never a pen and never should have gone to VAR. Swedish manager is doing his nut.

You can see why they wanted it looked at. I reckon he’s still riled after the Germany match

I reckon he went home to smash up his furniture's but as it was all IKEA stuff it just fell apart as soon as he laid a single finger on it.

He therefore then went to go and find a cat to kick.

What!!!!! WTF!!!! WHAT!!!!???

I was convinced that was no penalty by Hernandez and felt it should never have gone to VAR.

Phil Neville said the same on the commentary. Back to the studio at half time though and they are aghast it wasn't a penalty and say it was a clear penalty.

I give in.

Exactly, it was by his side and it moved in the direction he was going when trying to run out with the ball.

If he had no arm, it would have gone to a Sweden player.

Geez, glad I picked the Mexico game. Just showed the highlights of the Germany game.
