He made the run and spotted it and finished it well. We would have run it into the corner and passed it across the outside of the box 5 times.

They took their chances better. Their keeper had his feet up.

7-1 shots on target tells astory really. Think defensively were were exposed somewhat, & the French may have annihilated us & destroyed the squad's confidence moving forward.

As critical as I have been about Sterling...it was quite glaring once he went off. His workrate chasing down derenders was fantastic. And nobody took threatening runs at their defence either. That is why the pundits like him I reckon, so fair play to them & him.

BUT massive respect to Southgate & the squad, massively surpassed expectations & have put the pride back into English football for international football.

Where are those stats from as England scored and Stones had a header cleared off the line. (Kane’s obviously doesn’t count as it hit the post.)

Yeah but they didn't trouble from them. That was my point about finishing.

They also hit the post and forced Pickford into a save. He has saved us a fair few times.

Pickford especially, Macguire & Henderson have been really impressive throughout for me.

We did. We looked well in control.

Second half I just don't know what we were trying to do exactly and in the end we seemed to just have Pickford try and punt it downfield hoping Kane would get a flick on.

I’d imagine from tonight both full backs won’t play, Sterling, and one of Alli and Lingard won’t either.

You are on a real downer...we all are. Imagine how those guys feel - especially those that have not had much of a look-in. Let them have their day. If they lose - they lose. If they win, it is a bit more pride to bring back with the squad

Agree.

Alexander-Arnold will play for sure. Might as well give Rashford a full 90 minutes and play Rose instead of Young.

May well see Dier in for Henderson too.

Personally I wouldn't play Vardy, I don't think he suits our system and would be inclined to maybe give Welbeck a run out.

I think we can take a hell of a lot of positives from this tournament, but there are some question marks over certain players.

Trippier, Maguire, Pickford have stood out for me.

Lingard and Alli have blown hot and cold but have made it count at certain times. Kane, again important presence but ultimately went missing in a lot of games, as did Henderson. Sterling, well what's the point. He still hasn't won me over and I don't even see his biggest apologists defending him tonight.

I was really proud of how far we have gone this tournament but to go out like that is really frustrating. We should have done so much better today!

Must be the first time two teams have played each other twice in a tournament and not bothered to play their first team.

All a load of nonsense really.

Most teams don’t win world cups very often and many none at all. In the end the team remained until virtually the end of the tournament and provide entertainment and excitement. That’s all that’s needed.

The manager managed the situation well. He worked the media far better than the previous managers and achieved also to get the players into the media and portray them as likeable guys - so removed from the dire years of McLaren and Cappello.

It’s better than 1990 as that was a pre premier league era and our players were big experienced names - some players had and went on to play in other leagues around the world as did the manager.

The premier league hugely limits options. Many of the players are not big names and not always first names on team sheets.

Lots of big teams fell by the wayside early in the competition and no one thought they’d get this far.

So people should not be carping about easy groups easy teams crap opposition.

We’ve finished in the top 4 and it’s been s pretty good adventure.

That came up on the screen in extra time. Might have been referring to just extra time tbh.

But hey...focus on the acheivement what is a group of young men.

And that was what it was tonight a bunch of young men against men. Close, but not close enough

No, agree. Just think tonight he didn't play well. Not sure if it was the instruction (guessing it was), but he hardly got near Modric all night.

Hat a great little player he is. Think Croatia wouldn't be half the team without him.

Yup. I was one of them.

Have to give him more time now. Really nice to see an England team trying at least to express themselves and play with a bit of freedom.

In a couple of years Maddison will be the perfect 10 in behind Kane creating the chances.

I don't know if it's just me but this was my observation: First half he was getting in behind, giving them plenty to think about. His pace had them frightened, bit like the Sweden game. Second half he seemed to start coming deeper again, which completely negated his pace.

Yep. Great to get to a semi-final, but we haven't been brilliant by a long chalk.

Kane looked completely shot tonight and so many players looked tired. That needs looking into, because the assumption was that Croatia would be the tiring side, not us, but they just kept going and going and going, while we looked so, so leggy.
Alli was anonymous, Kane wasn't himself, Lingard flitted in and out, Young had a poor game, as did Henderson.

No idea why we just decided to sit off Modric and let him play.

You watch France constantly close him down on Sunday and pressurise him.

The answer will be to reduce the size of the PL and abolish a domestic cup competition to stop the poor lambs from getting tired

Yep! I have openly said I didn't think he was the man for the job. Hands up...respect to him. He has done what only Alf Ramsey & Booby Robson have done for English football before him.
THAT is some achievement, but given the levels of expectation before the tournament...

Which is the way he more often than not used to play for England.

Kane was doing it tonight too.

What's the point having Kane and Sterling playing the ball forwards from their own half to a Kane and Sterling that aren't there on the end of it?

Does he fuck. He shouldn't be anywhere near that squad. Poor old Welbeck deserves a run out, better record than most of the current strikers yet ignored for that pub player.

Agreed.

For me, Vardy is nowhere near being able to compete at international level and we most certainly don't play the way Leicester play either.

Give Welbeck a go.

Agree and i've defended Stirling (even tho there wasn't a better option). Its all hindsight now but i wish Southgate would of been braver and beefed up the midfield but hey ho its all a load of bollox...

Can I just ask, on the Golden Boot, does the 3rd-4th place play off get included or not?
