For anyone who isn't aware, the Russian keeper got hit on the back of the head by a flare in the first minute of the game and had to substituted.

Well my question is, would Russia have had to count that as one of their 3 subs used? The obvious, logical answer in the real world would be no, but I kind of get the feeling the official ruling would be that it did.

Just wondered what the law was on this. Anyone know?

Surely a player injured by the crowd shouldn't count against the team who were the victims in such a circumstance.

It's counted as a sub mate, if game had not kicked off then it wouldn't have.

Quick sweepstake, how long before splatter blames English fans/game for this incident?

English influence most certainly. We're to blame for everything.

I don't get how though Russia should be penalised for having one of their players injured by the crowd! Doesn't that set a dangerous precedent?

Unfortunately that be the laws of the game, as soon as the whistle is blown to start the game, the whistle11 players are the team, any changes are then subs. Yes it's not good for Russia last night, but if you look at it another way, how often would teams then claim they were hit by something to make an extra sub?

At the vet least the game will be replayed behind closed doors

The scenes in the game last night were ridiculous. Severe punishments needed.

If the fans went around purposely injuring opposition players to give there own team and advantage, the match would almost certainly be called off if it happened more than once during a match and if it continually happened in further matches there would presumably be serious consequences to the team/club.

Yes, it would. but this happened in the first minutes I believe and the Russian keeper was stretched off with burns to the back of his head and the Russians had to make a substitution. The match then continued.

I'm sure there will be repercussions after, but if that is just a monetary sanction or part ground closure that would not have had any influence on the result of this game, had it continued to the full 90 mins.

With Russia having to sub their keeper, that gave an advantage to Montenegro.

Obviously the one sanction that would work would be for the authorities to award the game to the Russians.
