With no new signings expected to be made, we now have a good idea of our first team.

Murphy
Cyrus-J.Clarke-Willis-Adams
Baker-Thomas-Fleck-garner?
Wilson-Clarke

The defence will struggle. To me he has to bring back Malaga/Edge. Although Clarke looks relatively comfortable at CB he needs a big lad next to him.

Midfield looks solid, but Garner, despite impressing in his second Pre-season, he may not be ready for the step up.
This will mean Sheff/Bell will have to be bought back.

Up front looks solid. Clarke looked sharp yesterday.

A mouthwatering prospect. For Crawley.

Clarke is quite a "tidy" player at centre back, but with the squad we have at the moment the prospect of playing against a good old fashioned big third division centre forward is, frankly, pretty scary!

And injuries to baker and Clarke leave us with nothing much

Defence is paper thin..

Debutee Finch did well, but he is 16 years old.
Willis is not even 6' tall and only 19.
Jordan Clarke is probably the only one with much experience
Cyrus, well he will be going soon enough to fund this years losses.

Zero strength in depth..

I do think Baker is a skilful player. His ability to take players on is as good as your going to get at this level, but if you saw his performance yesterday for every good thing he does he follows up with something that makes you scratch your head . I had a wry smile when he cocked up for the first Nuneaton goal and a young lad behind me shouts " we still love you Baker". His pass to Wilson for our first was top draw . Just wondering how, if we are ever going to play 2 upfront, can we afford to have Baker as the right side midfielder without being overrun if the opposition go with 5 . Good player , nice bloke but I wouldn't be worried if we tried something else

-----------------------Murphy----------------------
Phillips----------Clarke---------Willis---------Adams
----------------Barton---------Fleck---------------
Baker---------------------------------------Moussa
--------------Clarke------------Wilson--------------

Phillips because i think that Christie will be gone by the start of the season
But i believe that that team could beat crawley

Paul Jones, Mat Sadler, Mark Connolly, Klye McFadzean, Connor Essam, Sergio Torres, Gary Alexander, Nicky Adams, James Stinson, Mike Jones, Jonte Smith there team from a game against milwall

Moussa in for Garner and Barton for Wilson depending on weather we want 4 or 5 man midfields

I thought barton and fleck were awful yesterday. If they were half as good as they think they are they would be twice as good as actually are.

wouldn't say awful they both played some good stuff but they did look a bit lackadaisical at times. I'd put it down to it being the first game of pre-season, had a lack of match sharpness which will come with games.

Both players started their careers with a lot of potential but even though still young their career may be considered if not on the slide at a vital stage. Both yesterday were wayward with their passes and seemed to have th e attitude that they were going to swan around the pitch teaching this non-league team a lesson. We looked a far better team in the secondhalf more direct more physical.

I wouldn't say we played direct at any stage of the game yesterday. Our superior fitness levels are what caused the 2 late goals

Completely agree, he can be good but all very poor , these are bits ppl don't care about. I wouldn't mind a change either

A conventional 442 with that defence and a central midfield 2 of Thomas, fleck or Barton looks very weak defensively......we'll keep less clean sheets than last season..

we won't play a conventional 442, we'll have two holding midfielders

Am I seeing people say they want to change baker after he had a average performance in the very weaker side in a 45 minute period against Nuneaton in our first pre-season!?

Set up our goal yesterday, so made up for his mistake.

I know but 2 of the 3 proposed teams in this thread were set out as 442.

No.
My post was in response to an earlier post that implied that without him we would be nothing !
He had Barton and Fleck alongside him.
I've missed about 5 home games since he came and I've seen lots of his skill ,most of his goals and nearly all of his assists but there's just some thing about the way he plays that doesn't seem to bring teammates into play quick enough.
