Jimmy Hill told Keegan he was too small to be a footballer when he was here on a trial. I also heard about Cloughie coming to us,but not sure if it was true or not.
That ranks right alongside Decca who rejected the Beatles as having no future, and DEC who said no-one would ever want a computer in their home.Jimmy Hill told Keegan he was too small to be a footballer when he was here on a trial. <snip>
Yes, I too recall that. I seem to remember that the club announced it before Cloughie wanted it to be public knowledge and as a result did not sign.Jimmy Hill told Keegan he was too small to be a footballer when he was here on a trial. Having read the article I now recall the story. See where the approach was illegal bit ? It shows dodgy dealings have been around for a long time. Cloughie would have been great for us and Taylor was an ex City keeper, so who knows what would have happened ?
Not getting Hartson in early enough when relegated from the premier league. We'd have stayed up had we brought him in when we first had the chance and oh how things would have been different.
Charles Dickens got turned down,as was JK Rowling numerous times. Imagine if they'd given up !That ranks right alongside Decca who rejected the Beatles as having no future, and DEC who said no-one would ever want a computer in their home.
Some think he used us as leverage. Was it Derby he went to?Yes, I too recall that. I seem to remember that the club announced it before Cloughie wanted it to be public knowledge and as a result did not sign.
What did we want with a reggae star?B-)Seem to remember we had all but signed Barry Bridges from Chelsea in 1966 but he then decided to sign for Birmingham instead, so we went and signed Ian Gibson from Middlesborough instead. Think we got the better deal in the end.
Oh and Joe Cole the first time!! :-oTheo Walcott on loan.

Clough and Taylor were set to join Coventry after leaving Derby, even taking part in a meeting at Highfield Road about the position. But Derby offered the 2 their jobs back with higher pay so they decided to return to the Baseball Ground for another couple of yearsJimmy Hill told Keegan he was too small to be a footballer when he was here on a trial. I'm sure Strachan tried to sign Steve Gerrard as well as David Thompson the season we went down
Lennon agreed to sign and set off back to Crewe to collect his boots for training the following day. Problem was he went via Leicester and the ginger tosser let MO convince him they were a better choice !!Lee Bowyer and Neil Lennon bids were made for both but they turned us down
Barry Bridges? What did we want with a reggae star?B-)
We signed him the season we were relegated, think that is what the poster meant.I'm guessing Strachan must have forgotten that Thompson was already playing for us then, the ginger prick.
