When my son was a teenager I was always winding him up, and once I told him that the Queen doesn't fart, when she feels that she's about to break wind, she tells a maid or butler and they do it for her. I said it's politeness and royal protocol.
He sat with his mouth open and said " how snobbish is that ? " I told him a few days later it was a joke. He said he'd told his classmates and they also believed it.
I'm now believing it myself !
