Still have a gut feeling we’ll get Owen Beck in on loan.

What's the ongoing obsession with Matty James ?
We've moved on by about 3 seasons from him being any good for us

Don't think anyone's said they want him back, just that they would like a Matty James-esque loan.

I think we explored the loan option for Worrall but Forest only wanted to sell the old fart for 4M. I think getting a couple of loanees in (of the Matty James, Luis Binks variety) will be useful.

They might realise nobody is going to pay their valuation and decide to loan him out later in the window. Us paying half of his 40k a year salary is better than nothing to them.

His aversion to the loan system is baffling

TBH I’m not too bothered. You won’t find the players we need in the loan market. It’s rare a player who isn’t a wide player or a tricky AM/ST does well on loan. CB and CM you need adults really.

We've had a series of good loan centre backs since getting back in the Championship.

In fact, the only one who wasn't a success was Panzo.

Doyle was OK once Fadz got hold of him, same with McNally. Neither of them as they were would improve us now IMO. It’s Fadz that we are lacking at the back. Doyle or McNally in this side would look even more lost than our current CBs.

And I don't think our centre halves do look particularly lost. I don't think they're out strongest partnership, but I don't think they're the problem, either.

I can see why we would go with not loaning players, as ultimately you are spending time and money developing someone else's players, and some loans come with an obligation to play them for x amount of games (potentially with fees/wage contributions).

With that being said, it can be mutually beneficial, there is a case for either side.

Was hardly tested though was he? None of their defence was.

Considering their back line one of the slowest I was surprised how rarely we tested them on the turn. Wright skinned the right back two or three times early on and that was it.

Agreed. Strange as we had some early success getting the ball behind them and then stopped for some reason. Mentioned earlier if we’re going to get the best out of our attackers we need to get down the channels quicker and use their pace/power

In terms of loans it’s been alluded to elsewhere that we tried to get one in but they got injured at their parent club

You are having a laugh. Callum Doyle didn't need McFadz. He was our most versatile centre back when he was with us. He played on the left side of the three, the right side of the three and in the centre of the three. He was what 18/19 years old? He didn't look out of place in any position once he had got about 5:games under his belt.

Doyle and Nunez were the best players on the park by a mile. Nunez epitomized what we are lacking in midfield.
