Pulled my back at work just now , ironically bending down to unplug a hoist which is supposed to help us not injure our backs

Currently walking like John Wayne with piles

In response to the title, I would say "there aren't any."

I'd say in most cases it's better than the alternative.

Not even pretending you can't hear your wife/partner when they're going on about something you're not interested in?!

My Children often ask me how it feels getting old,I tell them I don't feel anything until around 12pm and by then it's time for my first nap

Ibroprufen and cold therapy for 3 minutes at a time that's if it's down the sciatic nerve, sympathy to you Daz!

I only have the one child and she has had no children, so no grandkids for me right now.

Should I be grateful, or sad?

Well I've got five Otis and it's mostly great but my teenage Granddaughters are certainly giving my Daughter umpteen problems currently.

Had some ibroprufen and paracetamol at work , pain eased off . Worked as a carer for 25 years and when I was younger didn’t really use hoists starting to pay for it now

Grandkids, great enjoy watching them growing up. There now in their 20's and look down on me (hight wise) and I love listening to their take on life.

Positives
Its tolerated if you fart occasionally when getting up from a chair !
At the suggestion of DIY its acceptable to say your worn out.
You are at, or nearing the time you don't have to work if you don't want to.
You have a vivid ( albeit sometimes skewed memory) how everything was better years ago 'the good old days'.

Negatives
Your nose and ears have more hair than your head.
You cant drink more than a couple of pints without getting up for a piss every hour of the night.
You try to do things that you no longer can do.

What joys??

Back problems - tried doctors who fob me off, Ibuprofen and Paracetamol (some help but not much), Voltarol helps for a while, hot and cold compress (again works for a short while)

Arm and shoulder pain (see above)

Leg pain (probably from holding myself a certain way because of the backache.

Going to try a massage now to see if that helps at all (bit nervous though as never been before so don't know what to expect or what the correct etiquette is (I'll find out a week on Saturday))

There are some benefits though - I've learnt to take people as I find them and not believe all the pretense and to give less of a damn about anything I can't control - Sky Blues form still depresses me though. Also, nearer to retirement . Grand kids are a blessing as well as is having children who look after themselves now

Getting in and out of an old sports car, where the steering wheel seems a lot closer to my stomach than it used to…..

I think cars shrink as they get older.

I’m thinking maybe a smaller steering wheel will do the trick… the size of a saucer should do it..

Maybe one of those F1style detachable ones, mate?

I used to have an MG Midget, and loved it. Not so long back, I pondered an MX-5, then I had a go in one and thought "blimey, this is really uncomfortable!".

That and the fact I suspect I'd end up getting out of it by crawling on my hands and knees (not a good look in the pub car park), put that idea to bed.

Are peoples to coy to talk about their love life in later years.?
Heres my take on it....
In younger years after going to dinner, then on to a night club in the early hours we'd get back home at copious amounts of drink then up the stairs. Feeling a bit peckish I'd go then for the 'ham batch' OMG it tasted like tenderloin with an aroma of exquisite perfume all around making me fell like Adonis, majestically standing while lying down. The deed being done after some considerable time I might add, I'd wake in the morning feeling refreshed after what would seem like afternoon nap to me now-
ROLL ON 35 YEARS
I no longer think I'm Adonis, more like I-dont-is. If I get peckish now, when its on offer the 'ham batch' doesn't quite taste like tenderloin anymore, it is more akin to an offering that has been open to the elements on the counter of an eastern European Deli counter for to long. It can also taste a lot saltier than I remember. Despite me senses not being what they used to be, the aroma now reminds me of a smell I encountered when visiting elderly Grandparents in a nursing home years ago. Back then I would feel accomplished for performing longer than it takes to watch a TV mini series. Nowadays however I no longer stand quite so 'majestically', The change of perfume to a more cost effective brand is not so much my liking and can unfortunately burn my lips/tongue like bleach if I have nibble's. This is obvious quite distressing to talk about these days but at least I have the comfort of watching box set's (of her choosing) now.
