Why not? January is a terrible time to sign players. The only reason we want it is because we’ve got to watch the shite they churn out each week, but financially it makes no sense to splurge this season. Gives us time to find a proper recruitment team and see if Lampard is worth sticking with next year.

I’m not sure at our level Jan is as bad to buy as some make out a lot of the teams aren’t that well off in this league and if they have a player going into the last six months of a deal might take what they can if the player has made it clear he won’t sign. Do I trust Austin and his crew to find these players no.

Because we saw with QPR a few seasons back what happens when the rot is allowed to set in on previously decent performing players. Piss takers need moving on and leaders or at least consistent performers need to replace them.

I would imagine he knew little about our keepers and probably took advice from the coaches mainly Williams and Carr.

He was clearly being advised by Rhys Carr. He's the one who brought Collins back in, he's the one Lampard would have leant on first few games whilst he got to know the squad

The Collins saga is Carrs fault in my eyes

I don’t think we’ll go down (I know you do) and I think we need to replace far more than is possible in a January window anyway. Unless there’s an experienced freebie on a cheap contract with the right atttitude or someone wants to take a disruptive player off our hands I wouldn’t do much. I certainly wouldn’t be spending millions on this season.

On Carr at the Millwall game I got in early and watched the warm up he looked like a spare part to me while Lampard men got on with the real work he was kicking the balls back to the attackers after they had missed the target. We desperately need a real defensive coach even if it’s until the end of the season.

As silly as it sounds are we better to have a midding season this year to bring about the changes we would need in the summer.

If it’s all about the five years to get in the Prem doubt Doug would sit on his hands where as a charge up the table with low investment could give a false sense of how good we are?

Depends who's available for the right money. I wouldn't be against sales or purchases in January, but can't be too much as it can take time to gel or get up to speed if not currently a regular. If our eye is on next season and we don't consider relegation a threat, then bedding them in early could help for next season.

I haven’t actually said that once, just it’s a possibility. And looking at how badly we’re playing with the least resilient squad we’ve had since 2017, it remains a possibility.

We had people crowing after despatching the worst away side in recorded history and it was promptly followed by a double serving of insipid wank. Iceberg right ahead and all that

To be fair to Carr, he was deal a shit hand having to take the team, with Wilson injured, and Dovin's concussion... And Collins did pretty well against Sunderland, so he probably earnt himself some credit....

His performances got worse and worse though, and FL should've taken him out of the side earlier than he did

Sorry that’s what I meant. I don’t think we’re close to relegation material so it’s not a concern for me. Even playing terribly we’re accumulating points. It’s got 13-17th written all over it this season imo

What’s all this rubbish about “bad eggs”. If we have a bunch of players who can’t put effort in for 90 minutes for good money just because they aren’t all best friends then they aren’t the players we need. No wonder we’re so “nice” on the pitch. Probably trying not to win so the opposition don’t fall out with us. It’s utter garbage.

We've accumulated some points in a very kind run of games. These performances continue against actually decent teams and we'll get trounced, starting with Norwich away.

you clearly don’t get how it works behind the scenes do you?

players work better as a team. we have no togetherness anymore

pretty clear to see and the relationship between players and fans has changed too

If you don’t think the two are linked to how a team performs then you are mistaken

never did we used to see players bicker on the pitch

this season we’ve seen it almost every game including yesterday

Would just need to see when they were signed I guess.

Can't be many badlan ones left. He went in December 22 I think.

It not all about full backs "bombing up and down". That's too basic a comment and is disingenuous towards what we are actually seeing.

Bidwell in particular has started taking up inside forward positions which allows the winger still to be wide, whilst providing support and additional bodies in attack for the opponents to deal with. Probably instructed, as the winger (currently Rudoni and previously EMC), has better end product.

It used to be the opposite where MVE/Bidwell/JDS would overlap and provide the crosses. It is a change. Whether it's working is up for debate, but we have seen goals and more chances created from crosses.

It is instructed as Milan said the same in his interview ahead of the Pompey game (9 mins in if this doesn't work) -

Players holding each other accountable on the pitch didn’t harm United under the Ferguson years. In fact they now consider it to be one of their strengths at that time.

Cole and Sheringham famously never spoke off the pitch.

People read too much into small things when clubs are having a tricky period.

There are clicks in every team at every level of football.

Here we go again with the 'true facts'. We conceded ~1.3 goals a game under Robins. Not great but it wasn't until after it shot up pretty dramatically. Last few games have been a bit of an improvement but mostly because the other teams haven't really attacked/taken their chances.

Having Dovin and Bidwell back in is a big plus though so let's hope we can keep it tight against Norwich.

Would argue they aren’t holding each other to account though as there’s no visible change just a shrug off the shoulders

every player/team is different

you’re comparing apples and pears

todays modern footballer completely different to even 20 years ago

players can get managers sacked far too easily now (robins prime example)

same players can easily disrupt changing rooms

why do you think Lampard has the team staying together the night before home games now and getting them there at 11?

To be fair to Carr it’s a brand new system for him as well as the players. He’ll still be working out his place in all of it as well as the new drills and such

I feel Lampard is slowly drawing the same conclusions as his full time predecessors. He started with Collins, Dasilva in a back 4 and Bassette up top and is gradually moving towards the side most fans would pick.
