I see Drapers has closed down. Does anything they get involved with work out?

A real shame. Food in there was good and the beer choices were always good (if expensive). I hope someone picks it up and runs it properly again.

Although it is a shame I always felt it never really found its place. For a pub that size it wasn’t used to its full potential and was perhaps a little too niche.

A bit like the Squirrel people say it’s a shame but clearly didn’t use it regularly enough to make it viable.

It picked up the lunch trade from both Council and Uni staff but I’ve been in there a few times after work (it seemed to be the go to pub for peoples leaving drinks) and it just never really got going.

It will be interesting to see what happens with it because it is in a prime location and is a big old place.

Have a feeling both this and the Flying Standard (if true) will be bought by chains like All Bar One etc.

wasn't it run by the fella(s) who run Inspire and beer gonzo. They're both decent spots, or were in the case of Inspire.
Lat time I went into Drapers it was a Friday night and there was no one in there when we walked in so I suppose the writing was on the wall.

I wonder if the council move to Friargate had an impact.

Two brothers ran both Inspire and Drapers (I know the younger one) but Beer Gonzo is ran by another lad who is very good mates with the younger brother.

To be fair that’s how it used to be but haven’t seen either of them in a while.

Fun fact but the first time I met the lad who runs Beer Gonzo was the night of the Millennium and we were both at Gatecrasher in Sheffield.

Funny that. I was there last Wednesday evening and there were a fair few there.

Shame. It's a great building. Hopefully someone will take it on.

Inspire has also closed, wonder if the issues are related?
