What a fantastic debut by the old man! His reading of the game is superb, and his communication with team-mates brought the experience and leadership that we've been so desperately lacking. He was slightly sluggish early on, but fine once he got warmed up, like a vintage Ford Cortina. And his positioning was superb-suddenly that big gaping hole on the left of our defence had disappeared! He knows exactly when to tuck in and when to get tight to his winger, whilst also orchestrating the rest of our backline so that our shape was kept.

I'm a big fan of Hussey, but he has plenty to learn defensively, and having a classy veteran like Herman to teach him will do him the world of good. He even managed to overlap effectively a few times-the experience and know-how gives him an extra 5 yards in his head that he lacks in his legs. And as an added bonus, he has a more than useful long-throw, and sounds like the kind of positive character that fits in perfectly and boosts the dressing room.

I'm all in favour of giving him another years contract, whatever division we are in. Well done Herman, and welcome to CCFC!

Marcus Hall was the first City player to make his debut when younger than me; Herman is the first in years to make his debut when older than me (just!). So on top everything else, he makes me feel like a youngster again!

He took no shit and gave out plenty, saw him smack winger in nose in first half just by leaving his hand down as he stumbled over him, then in 2nd half he shoved player & immediately looked across at ref to see if he'd noticed. About time we gave as good as we got.

I must be the only one that thought he was poor.
Gifted their goal and you could see they were trying to get the ball down their right hand side as much as possible.

Errr I would say Murphy was more to blame! He was sloppy but grew into the game I thought!

I found myself strangely in disbelief at this guy...the first 15-20mins I thought oh my god, he's not fit and overweight, slow and not very agile... and yet after 20 mins as the game went on, whilst not spectacular he grew in stature, Middlesboro' threatened very little down that side, he just ghosted in, took charge and then out again... it was odd I cant recall a single tackle or block and yet he was there, whenever needed, how did he do it?

after the first ten minutes i was thinking...oh dear, his legs have gone. but credit to him he was solid second half. He isn't going to get down the line and whip crosses in like Hussey does, but it's good that we now have options at left back of either an attacking or more defensive player.

First half he was shocking. Neck and neck with Clinghan.
After they went down to ten men it was made it easier for him.
Unfortunately I think he'll be shown to be a weak link and hopefully not cause us too much damage due to the fact his legs have gone. Sorry guys I just think you are getting carried away with it all.

In the first 30 minutes there was absolutely no competition for Clingan in terms of worst performance......I thought Herman was solid, and after the first few minutes gave no real cause for concern - although I accept the goal came from his wing but I'll take another look at that on the FLS after MOTD

He got beat easily. If I remember the guy just casually knocked it one way and ran round him the other. No turn of pace. Got left standing. Not played enough recently maybe.

Decent debut but I wouldn't go overboard. He will have tougher tests than that, but then he will be more match fit too. A decent start imo.

He held his own in a team that ending up easing to victory. All players ebbed and flowed within the games, but I would say it was an alright performance generally with a welcome three points and three goals - with above average performances by McSheffrey, Platt, Nimely, obviously Keogh and, as strange as it is to say, Bell (who I thought was fairly assured on the ball whilst on the field and was exactly what was needed when the game wasn't won). No-one let themself down, but I would always expect a veteran defender to look best at home.

Our defence will get better the more HH plays. His experience will get our defence playing even better. Our younger players will learn so much from him. OK, he will not be the quickest, but will know where to position himself instead of having to run to get to where he is needed. Our other defenders will soon learn their best position for set pieces. Hopefully we will now let in less silly goals.

Looked solid, but the real strength wasn't visible. He talks, hes some desperately needed experience in a back line where Cranie was the oldest and none had played higher level football than they are at the moment (Cranie hardly played for Pompey)

Whatever you think of their ability, him Clingan and Platt will be vital if we are to stop losing games in the last half hour.
