I thought the rapturous applause for someone about to try and assist a goal against us was far too much, I thought the constant booing for O'Hare a bit excessive.

However, it was all balanced out beautifully by absolutely nobody noticing Sam McCallum at all.

I said the same earlier.

Not sure why Hamer is still so well regarded by Cov fans, but O'Hare was always going to get booed.
Didn't they both leave in similar circumstances? Just because O'Hare went to a club in the same league?

Think they're both worthy of applause for their contributions, but definitely after the game is done with

Won in the end though so all ok

Loved Hamer when he was here and would love to get him back here tbf, but even I thought it was pretty pathetic the applause he received. Don't hold any bad feelings for the way he left either, he told the club he wanted to leave after we lost the play off final, it's not his fault it was left so late in the window before Berge went to Burnley and then Sheff Utd went after Hamer. Its the way football is. It's our fault for not finding a suitable replacement and we still haven't 3 transfer windows later. We also could have rejected any deal and risked it all on getting promotion.

O'Hare is just a rat though, not sure what it is but I find him very unlikeable.

So do you know O'Hare then?
O'Hare and Hamer both left for more money than DK was prepared to pay them. Good luck to them both, it's a short career.

Personally I think we should be relentlessly booing both during the game and politely applauding them at the end/when they go off. Bantz and respect. Never approve of applauding oppo players in play and never will…. Why risk giving them even an extra 1%.

I was appalled.

Loved Gus when he played for us, but bigging him up when he's got a goalscoring opportunity (taking a corner), is a step too far.

This needs a poll...

A) Did you clap Hamer when he took a corner?

B) Or are you not a twat?

Not that it’s entirely relevant, but this phenomena of clapping opposing players (regardless of their service to Cov) has always baffled me.

In the late 90’s I distinctly remember both Michael Owen (for Liverpool) and David Beckham being clapped and lauded over by our fans every time they farted near the ball. It just puzzled me.

I remember once Owen scored against us (possibly 98-99 at home) and there were fuckers on their feet applauding him! Mental.

Don't remember that, though I do remember Drogba getting a standing ovation when he went off after the Chelsea cup game as he ran us ragged.

Didn’t applaud for the corner, but also didn’t boo COH (what grown adult boos anyway??)

I did, however, clap them both off - which, for COH, definitely put me in the minority. This was the hipster decision.

Did he give acknowledgment though? I’m in block 18 and I didn’t see it (not saying it didn’t happen) but I did see people behind the goal, corner and to the blocks to the right of me stand up and applaud him to the level which messi received an ovation at the bernabeu.
If he cared that much he would have stayed at the end and clapped everyone, but he didn’t.
On the note of Vik, least he was honest even in January he was ditching us if we didn’t go up. Gave us a clap off at Wembley and went. Hamer even up until Wimbledon was adamant to everyone he was staying (even though he didn’t intent to).

Zola got one when substituted in a League Cup game the year after we were relegated, too.

I quite liked that one; the game was lost, and Zola was a genuine legend of the world game. Showed some class.

Why the hell are people bothered about it? I clapped and I’m happy I did. The guy never wanted to leave us. He’s been berated by his own manager for coming to City games when he’s a SU player. The SINGLE most stupid decision this chairman (well, apart from getting rid of the best manager since Hill/Sillett) has made in recent times was not paying to keep him. People, laughingly in my opinion, said ‘No man is bigger than the club’. Well in this instance that was absolute bullshit. He was the cog that made everything tick. You could see MR desperately wanted the team to be moulded around him. And we couldn’t even pay him the extra he deserved. And now we’re spunking the money on Lampard! Jesus!

Anyway, apart from that rant!! I was really impressed with the boys today. They wanted it more and I absolutely loved the performance of Bertie. Already a legend!

Yeah showing appreciation for a player who gave us some fantastic memories and was probably the most exciting player in the last 20 years.

My son went to the Stoke away game aged 6 as his first game. Hamer was the main reason he retained an interest in the club and supports them now (we live in the SE of England for reference).

How dare we show appreciation for such a player. Get over yourself

Yes. Exactly. And should we not have paid him at least close to that knowing it would give us a very good chance of promotion? Look at today, he barely had any touches and yet set up two goals within a flash. It’s that kind of class that we had, and lost.

But I completely understand that what’s done is done and we move on. As I say I was delighted with the performance today and believe we should have won! And we kept their best players so quiet.

No he didn't, I mean that's why Robins came out and said Gus said on the coach home after the play off final he wanted to leave

The bloke wanted to leave the second we didn't go up, confirmed by Robins, and the first prem offer that came in he jumped at it

People like his arse because he came back to watch a game

Did you enjoy clapping your hands for the man who had just assisted a goal for the opposition and was also standing over the corner for them??
