The stats are horrendous.

Sheff United had 2 shots on target we conceded 2 goals!
Burnley had 3 shots on target, we conceded 2 goals.
Cardiff had 4 shots on target and we conceded another 2 goals.

I don’t believe Collins deserves another start. If he starts against Millwall then what would it say about the way the others are performing in training…..
You are right he doesn’t deserve another start, however I think he played Saturday due to his Chelsea connections rather than the others being poor in training. It will be interesting to see how things develop.

Doesn’t matter who the keeper is at the moment until they get some protection from the outfield players.

Dovin is by far the best shot stopper. He needs coaching on controlling his box
Collins is by far the worst shot stopper and never stops anything

Still don’t understand why Dovin was dropped. People on here moaned about him, but then again people on here are unhinged.

I agree I’d like to see Dovin given a fair chance, even if he makes couple of mistakes, he needs a bit of time to learn on the job.

I can’t recall Dovin dropping a clanger personally. We just need to back him like we did with Collins last season and if he’s not up to standard, we know what we need to do in the summer.

The shots on target v goals conceded doesn’t tell the whole story because we’re conceding more goals than xgA as a whole. For the most part, the defending has been rubbish and the only goal where I felt Collins dropped a clanger was Burnley’s 1st goal where the ball appeared to go through his hand. The lad I was watching the game felt that he wasn’t a good GK after watching the one game of Collins.

The opposite problem to Wilson in 22/23. If he can get the golden glove and 22 CS in one season, it tells you that your defence is the most important piece in the jigsaw in relation to clean sheets.

I’m happy with Collins as 2nd choice, we’ve signed Dovin for a bit of money and he’s young with a lot of potential… just give him a chance! It’s not good for his confidence being in and out of the side.

I get what you're saying, but surely that's the exact reason to make sure you have the best possible keeper in?

If they're getting no protection then you need the best shotstopper, not the guy who lets in more than he saves.

Not strictly true. Yes he had a good defence in front of him but he had an excellent season personally and was well above championship average for the season for shot stopping.

Yes he's been rubbish since and yes it may have been a total fluke, but he deserves a lot of credit for his performances that season.

The stats take that into account, fact is Collins and Wilson concede goals the average keeper saves.

Goalkeeper recruitment has been terrible and a sad waste of money.
Getting Collins from relegated Barnsley (along with Kitching and Thomas) was really odd.
Having two indecisive keepers in Wilson and Collins who can't command the box, organise a defence or come for crosses then buying another in Dovin was another shocker.
But Dovin is the best of a bad lot.

He's not bad at all, he's been mediocre which makes him our best keeper. He's also likely to improve from that point given his age unlike the others. Dropping him was silly.

I'd actually call him mediocre as well.
But he wasn't what we needed.

in recent years when we had murphy, westwood, burge, even Marosi, we stuck by the keeper when they made howlers, 2nd gk;s got to play in cup games, and unless there was a huge drop in form, the 2nd would get a call up.

we need to consistently start dovin, and stick behind him.

I will keep banging on the point that there really aren't many good keepers out there.

Look at the top level. There is a lack of quality keepers even at top clubs. United, Chelsea among others have pretty average keepers. And I think that is consistent through the leagues.

I actually think going for a young keeper who may develop was the right choice but our management of him hasn't been great. Our lack of an authoritative defender has meant a 'experienced' keeper is being picked over him to aid communicstion but that doesn't make up for their other weaknesses.

I think we need to persist with Dovin and I think there is a lot there to work with.

Don't think we could have got Cooper, but Viktor Johansson seemed the obvious choice to me. He's been brilliant for Stoke this season after excelling for Rotherham.

But Dovin is here and is very young, and has the potential to develop into a very good keeper so let's give him the chance to do just that.

Would have had Johansson but I’m not sure some would after he dropped the ball on Ellis’ head against us.

Dovin looks OK and has potential but another has to come in in the summer to compete and support him.

I'd get rid of Wilson, Tyler and Collins (god knows who will take him) and possibly look to bring in an older head.

I know Moore had a few bad games and was the fall guy for the Wrexham debacle, but I do think Robins made a big error ostracising him the way he did. I'd rather him as the back up to a young keeper than any of the others we've got.

Some of these are fairly standard saves, but not sure we'd have stopped that first one with Dovin, Wilson and Collins all stood in goal together

He did have a career year but a good goalkeeper will only add so much. Look at Johansson at Stoke, last season he conceded 89 goals and is considered a solid Championship goalkeeper.

Structurally, it’s our defence that has always been the problem since Feb. We can’t keep clean sheets and I think Collins was a scapegoat last season but we’ve been leaking goals even without him in goal.

It’s easy to look at the shots on target to goals conceded (xgA v goals conceded too) and conclude the GK is the issue. It’s not. There was several goals in this stretch where opposition players are finding themselves free in the box and that is the issue. How many free shots do we get 6-10 yards from goal?!

Collins deserves a bit of stick for Burnley’s first goal the other day, however, Sarimento shouldn’t be free in the box to have a point blank shot at goal if we defend properly. In that 22/23 season our defending in those areas was top notch, we never really lost headers in the box and we committed a lot of last ditch blocks.

One of the differences, though, is that he’s deliberately parrying the ball to places he knows there are no attackers. Better than our traffic cones.

On Dovin, think he’ll come good given time but we needed someone more aggressive. Willing to collect crosses, high starting position to sweep up, and to be honest more decisive use of the ball. He’s technically decent but his decision making lets him down.

Hard to say, his loss of form. coincided with off field problems. Perhaps he just needed time out and then a fresh start - rather than a case of "ostracizing him"?

But that's the whole point of the xG stats - it takes everything else out and purely focuses on a goalkeeper's shot stopping performance.

Doesn't matter if he faces 1 shot a game or 100 shots a game and it doesn't matter if the attacker is unmarked 6 yards out or taking a shot from 30 yards. All of that is taken into account.

I'm not saying GK is the only issue, of course not, but with our leaky defence we need a solid keeper who saves more than they let in and with Collins that's not the case. We'd be much better off with say Johansson in goal behind this same shit defence.

Id bin off Collins keep Wilson and Dovin. Wilson is a fairy experienced championship keeper who is vocal and a good shop stopper.
decide who is going to be number one between them and get rid of Collins. Collins never comes for a cross and thats two games now since hes been back we have conceded goals where he should have done better

No chance we offer Wilson a new contract.

We seemed to jump incredibly quickly to the conclusion that he was totally washed. Two more GK signings and one move to Sunderland later and it appears that was extremely hasty on our part.
