The switch up to a more direct aggressive style this season has taken me by suprise tbh , an approach not adopted so much in this league yet but in the premier league more teams are playing this way .

But losing just 9 league games in 40 so far is very impressive and shows over a longer period we are probably destined for automatic promotion , or to be there or there abouts . Screenshot_20251022_085239_Chrome.jpg

Despite early reservations hes clearly doing an incredible job , and proving he is a very good manager

Yeah, the verticality of the team is very impressive. Last night Portsmouth were as expected hardworking and high pressing so instead of trying to as before pass it through them we mostly just went over the press. Shows Lampard is still studying the game and how teams play.

I think this is an important observation. Presumably it’s partly planning ahead? Used to watch premier league games thinking the levels of athleticism and pace were terrifying but now you look at us and can see the making of a team that could play at that level.

Also, I was one of those dead against Lampard when he was first rumoured, mainly based on the exaggerated claims that he largely failed at his other jobs. Came around after looking at some of the arguments in his favour but yeah, hands up there I was dead wrong initially. Him and his staff doing an incredible job.

I didn’t particularly want Lampard at the time. Glad I was wrong

It’s how football was meant to be played and is the common link between great teams of any era. Achieving it though requires a lot of time drilling on the training ground, getting players familiar with each other and so on.

Our team is unchanged from last season except the keeper and now Woolf, so that familiarity is way ahead of the other sides at the moment. Great to watch

It was a pretty common view, possibly even the consensus, but I think public and media opinions of his management career previous to us were unfairly harsh due to the loans he had at Derby and what Chelsea achieved after he left.

Yeah, I wasn’t particularly keen on the appointment, but was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and was also happy to give him plenty of time to sort things out / implement changes.

There was a very vocal minority on here who were dead against it though and didn’t want to give him more than 10 games etc!

There was a very strong ITK narrative that King just wanted a name and there was no genuine effort at a hiring process.

This is exactly what the pundits have been saying on sky this morning, it's a revolution their even saying arsenal are going long and using the long throw I'm not having that we've been doing them 2 thirds of last season too you know.

‘Going long’ isn’t really what I’d call it, that’s the days of Sam Allardyce hoofing it up to Kevin Davies for 90 minutes. This is about moving the ball at pace.

Yet loads of our fans moaned at mve and the long throws

Yet another thing I was right about

As I recall you thought it was funny when I said the game was moving away from Pep ball and to moving the ball at pace. Another thing I was right about.

I also thought it was funny when you said we would shoot up the table under Lampard last season. Another thing you were right about.

I was pretty convinced that getting rid of Robins was a terrible mistake, and King was just another owner with delusions of grandeur, who wanted a big name he could show off to his mates. And I was obviously wrong.

I think what Lampard showed in close season, was a faith and belief in the players that were already here, and I think that's what they've responded to.

He's shown confidence in players that many of us have had doubts about, stuck with them, improved them, gave them some self-belief, and is now getting the rewards. That he's playing a style of football that they seem to understand and enjoy is a real bonus.

Fair play to the bloke, he's more than just a big name, turns out he's a properly good manager too.

Don’t think I’ve ever been so wrong about anything, was dead against the appointment , to me he was just a “big name” manager whose name looks good on paper and for the look of the club. It’s been great to be wrong!

He’s got miles to go yet, but if he stays around, I might end up liking him as much as a certain Mr Robins 👍

If it were up to SBT we’d be chugging along in league 1 right now with Robins in the dugout and Fadz, Matty James and Godden making up the spine of the team.

Thank you for acknowledging when I was right

I'm afraid you are wrong about when I was wrong though!! I have never once said the game isn't changing. I just said I'm not ready to call time on older tactics . I wouldn't even call time on allardyce long ball personally. Different tactics for different situations . Look how many people on this forum said the games moved past 3 at the back ffs

But once again thanks for showing a great example of me being right 😋

Most people agreed it was time for Fadz and Godden to move on.
People, including myself, were up in arms about Robins sacking but I'm quite happy that I felt that anger on behalf of a man who saved the club and without whose work there'd be no King and no Lampard.

I'm also happy to admit I was wrong about the decision and King called it right, (as I acknowledged fairly soon after it had happened).

Those that still constantly snipe about Robins are absolute wrong uns in my book and always will be

The thing worrying me at the moment is we become one of those teams that absolutely smashes a calendar year but misses out on promotion because the start of one season and end of another are awful.

No sign of it yet but we’re playing so well it already feels like the pressure is building.
