I’m sure this isn’t the player we’re all thinking about after last night, but I do think he deserves a general shoutout.

Has scored many crucial goals and must be incredibly frustrated that he is not first pick with a good goal ratio. Despite that he still gives 100% when he is brought on and is a nuisance. Many of our players perform well, but it’s the ones who do it through disappointment week in and week out that impress me and push us that little further as automatic promotion contenders.

I think he has still got a crucial role to play, you only have to look at Lati to see how things can happen.

He’s done everything you’d want from a 2nd choice striker. Picked himself up well after what was a very disappointing last season.

We play a system with one forward and it’s always going to be the superior player who starts

At some point due to injury , etc he will be needed again as a starter. Your example about Lati is spot on .

Done everything eight when picked as No1 too.

Tough gig.

Luckily it seems we can score goals from anywhere atm so theres not a huge onus on strikers.

EMC/SAKA/ECCLes and Rudoni now getting regular goals and assists.

Just need Torp to come on and make a difference.

Think there will be alot of cahnges or changes to subs early on Saturday..had a brutal couple of away games...especially this one on wdd night.

No doubt he’s got some important goals left in him this year before potentially moving on in the summer.

Yes I would shuffle the pack on Saturday. Maybe Esse, BTA or Torp in.

Im just stating what I think is the actual reality

The OP spent most of last nights match thread whining about Haji Wright and that Simms should be starting. Bit like you really.

Him and Eccles are doing well with in their ‘finishers’ role. Simms heading/hold up play is so much better compared to last year. Reckon he’ll grab some goals before seasons out as well

I disagree he should be frustrated he’s not first pick as the OP states as he’s not as good

I assume you agree?

Well we dont know he's frustrated or not. All I know is he's done well this season when called upon and me and many others commend him on that.

For me he's not as bad as some think and not as good as some think

Made his contributions to a possible league win and I thank him and will remember him fondly.

But won't be here next season if we in prem or championship imo

Yes agree he wont be here.

But 10 goals is a big contribution this year and will be remembered fondly because of that should we go up.

He's nowhere near as much of a carthorse as Grendel makes out.

He looked like he was injured yesterday. I doubt he'll be playing Saturday.

Back in the autumn he started BTA ahead of Simmo when Haji was out, it'll be interesting to see what he does now.

Eh? I think we might have a threadbare squad if we moved on everybody who isn’t satisfied with not being on the team sheet

Of course. There is no contradiction in saying that and giving Simms his due as a great squad player.

Yes, that is what I said haha. You then said he should move on if that’s the case, which seemed a silly statement to me. All players will be frustrated if they’re not in the first team I would presume. Good management helps players see their value as part of a squad + plus a good attitude which Simms has demonstrated. You clearly think this is a Wright vs Simms debate which it is not.

In the match thread you stated Simms should be starting away games which given his dire efforts the last game he started seems rather detached from reality

Seems strange to single out Simms for praise after last night’s game, but even stranger to be singling him out for his overall performances this season.

Will say thism though, wright got criticism first half yesterday for working harder and impacting the game much more than Simms usually does

I think there's a good chance that he will start on Saturday.
Haji was still holding his shoulder at the end of the game.
It would be an ideal time to rest Wright and introduce a fresh Ellis Simms.
