I see all the self indulgent "Look at the teams we're playing" stuff has started. We've played a lot of them teams in recent years anyway.

We were relegated from the top flight 16 years ago and the second tier 5 years ago. Anybody would think we were playing Man Utd and Liverpool regularly within the last few years. It's a generation ago.

I think it's just an excuse for something to moan about.

We have known for ages who we are playing this season, why is it such a shock?

Seeing this really does make you realise how far we've fallen. I look at those teams and think that the only ones who should give us any trouble are Swindon.

I look and honestly think we could have an invincible, unbeaton league season

.........then I look at our squad and reality hits home.

Why would we have an invincible season?

The reality is we are in League 2, even as a League 1 club we wouldn't have an invincible season against League 2 teams.

People need to get past thinking we are in the Premier League or have a god given right to be there, it's no wonder they get so angry / annoyed every 5 minutes.

Great to see CC4L's optimism - including the date of the FA Cup final in his post!

Of our first 10 games 8 of those will have ambitions of going up at least via the playoffs and Notts county will likely fancy a opening day win

Of the 5 home games we've got none are easy, teams will come and frustrate us, and the away games ain't any easier too while we face the other 3 relegated side also in the opening 10.

I honestly think we will have a slow start to life in league two but I'm hoping we adapt quickly and find some momentum to challenge up the top end.

Relatively easy start to the season to be honest. County at home who have been struggling in league two since they got relegated back down there. Grimsby who struggled after Hurst left for Shrewsbury and Newport and Yeovil who were in the relegation scrap last year.

I'm with you. We are a top 8 budget league two team with no home in 12 months, unless you count number one choice of the butts.

The worst is yet to come.

Sorry, what I'm saying is it really does make you realise how far we've fallen. It's easy to think of the team that we had when growing up and we should easily beat all of these.

But we're not that team anymore, we are just an average League 2 team down, division 4 and it's easy to forget that.

It's not a self indulgent post, it's an acknowledgement of our current level and apologise if it reads as anything other than that.

It's hard to know whether we've got a tough start or not really, especially at this stage of the pre-season. Notts County first game is trickier than I would have like.

You think so? I'm not with you unfortunately.

Notts County have recruited well so far and retained John Stead who scored a few goals last year and will fancy a promotion push under Kevin Nolan
Grimsby your right did struggle mainly since the loss of Omar Boogle who'd scored 19 goals by January and are under a rebuild but another who will be aiming to hope for a playoff spot
Newport are a club high in confidence with new manager Micheal Flynn who put a amazing run in to end the season with survival, they will hope to build on that to be a club not fighting for survival.
Yeovil and Newport likely will struggle again but they wont be easy teams to break down and offer us the points for free.

First time in years we are starting and finishing the season at home. No boxing day game which is disappointing, but home against chesterfield on new years day.

This will be as tough league, it ain't going to be a cakewalk.

Overall a good fixture list.

Grimsby in August means I won't be going in with the home supporters this time. Bloody freezing there in winter.

Carlisle end of December. Could see in the new year in Glasgow and go to the game on the way.

Morecambe last away game of the season. I'll do the same as last season. Drive there and drop myself off at the ground. Hand keys over to wife. Large bar at the ground that welcomes away supporters. Beer a decent price and isn't bad either. Good place to celebrate our promotion :shifty:
