There's going to be some in for a shock when the tap of essential migrants that the country depends upon is suddenly dry.
Why would you come here where you aren't welcome and evidently there is a lot of misplaced anger towards them. Believe it or it but Britain is not seen as the centre of the universe.

I know that the most powerful country in the EU is asking for that and would be in a stronger position if the U.K. was still in the game...

But we both know that isn't going to happen so meanwhile the 14,000 families on the council waiting list have to stay where they are while they watch the homes that they would have been given occupied by newly arrived families from overseas.

The number of migrants coming into the country and working here will, in the end, be largely unaffected by Brexit. The difference will be a control in regulation if the country wants it.

People are perfectly welcome here by the vast majority of the population and will continue to be,

Do EU migrants really get free housing upon arrival apart from in the minds of BNP/NF types?

That certainly is not the impression that the government and country is currently giving off. In the short time I think it will impact EU migration but it will be made up by non EU migrants. I know you've spoken out about the way the debate has headed previously, so fair play.

Business as usual then? There will be some long faces on here. We need a certain amount of unskilled labour. The point system will have more holes than a Swiss cheese.

I doubt it'll be a points system...they are often used by countries looking to increase their population.

Indeed there will be some long faces, especially as nothing much will change expect they will have less rights.

The point is the Government makes its own policy to suit its economic needs and requirements. I think we have to accept the UK is a relatively small country and a population explosion is not sustainable and has to be controlled from within.

However, of course we need some unskilled labour. Several industries, agriculture and service industries, would die without the migrant population. I've never said thats an issue have I?

We had all this in the late 50s and 60s. People poured in from Ireland and Scotland and the rest of England . The large council estates were built to house them ( yes and the baby boomers). The population of Coventry tripled in a short space of time. We survived. The Scots and Irish are now 2 and 3rd maybe 4 generation.

How ever did we do it?

The council has a statutory duty to house families with children. If the family is large enough and their income is low enough they can indeed live "rent free" (although the rules on that are gradually changing).

Last time we built massive estates - poor quality, but they ended up with a roof over their head...

You haven't got a clue. You can't rent a property, have an employment contract unless you register with the local communal hall. Britain is in the minority in not having ID cards.

What do you think happens when hotels take copies of your passport in a lot of countries? Your presence is registered with the local police.

I don't know where you got that statistic. Maybe it is correct. I was just pointing out that our society has rapists and if our people emigrate then some will be rapists- theoretically more could leave than arrive. There is no proof that migrants rape more than we do. Migrant rapes are highlighted though. In the USA all bad migrant crimes will be published monthly to make sure people equate migrants to crime. Some of our gutter press do something like that voluntarily.

.....you really are an Etonian's wet dream. When migration doesn't fall after Brexit, who will you blame next? Perhaps then you'll realise a lot these issues are down to the current government.

I was all for British ID cards. Essential nowadays and natural in many countries. Makes life easier having a check card size id in your wallet when you need to identify yourself. But no, the conservatives stopped that and now their supporters criticize Merkel for not identifying people. More double standards. Everyone has to be registered with the state - except us. Foreigners are rapists and criminals, but we aren't. Same crap.

Oh well, they'll have no choice but to issue them to the whole population after Brexit. Yet more mounting costs that could have gone towards hospitals, schools etc.

Everyone who lives in Germany has to be registered. It is normal and sensible. You cannot do a lot of things ( e.g. open a bank account) without your id and proof of registration.

If you get stopped without I'd you could end up in the cells until you find some id. ( seen that happen to someone caught shoplifting- 6 weeks until his trial came up- would have been allowed home if he had id with him ). It is the U.K. who doesn't know who lives where - unless they voluntarily register for the electoral roll. Labour had plans for id cards, but the right wingers stopped that.

I see that coming. We spent millions preparing for id cards under Labour. Scrapped everything and now by closing borders with people here and not registered or staying on after holidays illegally we will have to have some form of ID cards.

Hospitals staffed by migrants? not enough of them? The ones being defunded by the government that people insist on continuing to vote for? British people are really in for a shock.

Ireland is EU. EU citizens can work there. It would be easy to sneak into the U.K. over the NI border. So there will have to be a hard border. That plus the recent scandals and subsequent drubbing of the DUP could bring about a united Ireland. When Ireland was booming you needed these EU migrants- I remember being in Dublin in 2004 and hardly seeing anyone English speaking in the service industry. Cafés and takeaways etc..

Alternatively, Ireland could leave the european superstate and avoid economic meltdown. They only joined in the first place because Britain did so it makes sense for them to leave when Britain leaves.

Fucking hell.

Ireland doesn't live in Britain's shadow and there is no reason for it to follow the British suicide mission.
