Oh and just to clarify, despite MartGermans constant reference to the overall vote which was somewhat distorted by the London and Scottish voters many areas really were voting by 2/3 to 1/3 for Brexit. How do you go to them and say by the way fuck off , you didn't really count after all you ( mainly Northern) heathens. The North South divide will be even more accentuated.

That is the thing with England. Nearly every area voted leave. I put the map up a few days ago. Yellow for leave and blue for remain. There was hardly any blue on it. Only the rich parts of London were blue. I would guess that it is what politicians are worried about.

When did we last have a British government that wasn't like this? Even the last term for Labour was like it. Labour was the Tories in disguise.

We do. For instance I always buy mine in advance for Switzerland so I don't have to queue at the border. Then I spend hundreds just for using the motorways. Yet come here and nearly all the roads are free. We even pay for the motorways to be built and maintained.

Motorways being free is a domestic policy and I can’t see that changing any time soon.

I certainly do understand.

They want to keep what is ours and take away things that are good for us. They want to charge us money to go to the EU. They say it is to pay for the system of knowing who is there. So why shouldn't people from the EU coming here pay for a system so we know who is here?

It isn't tit for tat. It is fairness. Why should I pay for a system for the EU and then pay for a system here as well?

They shouldn’t but it escalates that’s the issue

97 labour government was the last one. Corbyn s would try and change it but won’t be given the chance by anyone. I recognise he isn’t prime ministerial though. I also recognise we are a centrist country at heart politically

Yes I know, it wasn’t me who made the orginal point. The vast majority of our motorway network is free though and the amount of tolls is nothing like some in other European countries.

Most damage to roads is caused by HGV's. Yet they get to use our roads for free. This should have changed years ago.

Not sure how domestic policies to or not to place toll charges on roads is down to the EU or how having to pay to drive in a non-EU country is down to the EU.

I agree. It should be what is best for the citizens and not for those in so called power.

But should we get charged by the EU and not bother charging them the same? Their excuse is that the USA charges for the privilege and the EU will be charging less than them.

Mainly bridge tolls. And you have the choice of paying the M6 one or taking the free motorway.

Have you driven through the EU much? One journey can be the amount of our annual road tax here. And that isn't for a cheap road tax car either.

And yes we have to pay what is basically the road tax in Switzerland.

Won’t effect me or my family. The only people with the right to moan about it are the people who voted remain and will be effected by it though. Leave voters voted for it so they should accept it.

We do know and what he wants isn’t that dissimilar from May’s proposal. A permanent customs union which eliminates the requirement of the backstop is the only real difference and that actually seems more than achievable both from the EU and indeed Parliament as that has long been the cross party consensus.

Ironically the Tories are starting to slide towards cross party consensus in the last few days, Amber Rudd being the latest and most senior MP to talk about it in the last week.

Also ironically if May had have took cross party consensus in the first place instead of going the catchphrase politics route she took setting out unachievable redlines in the process we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Yes I know all that & have used mostly the French network. There is an alternative way around all tolls, especially here in the UK. Just takes much additional time & miles usually.

But none of that alters the fact that our motorways are free by domestic policy. City centres are becoming effectively toll-roads via congestion charges too. As a punter - do I have to pay over & above taxes to drive on a road or not? They can dress it up however they like with works like 'congestion', in the end I am paying a toll!

Labour before them and the EU's influence has also sent us on a race to the bottom.

The motorway network on the whole is free here compared to other European countries. I’ve paid all of the tolls you have above but if you think the motorway charges here are comparable to France and Italy then I guess you haven’t driven there very much

He also referenced roads being free, which presumably was to do with tolls.

The Swiss road tax doesn’t have much to do with the EU though. If Britain was to start charging road tax for HGVs and oversees cars, inevitably this would be reciprocated by EU countries.

UK vehicles could end up having to pay road tax across multiple countries, which would be costly for both tourists and businesses.

Can you please at least get your facts right.......I'm ashamed to say I voted in Blair in 1997 and again 4 years later and my word have I regretted it ever since, although the Tories were such a shambles at the time they had to go. The Blair's went onto shag up the country and line their own pockets to the tune of millions.

In the UK you don't have to pay normally unless in an area with good or better public transport. You have the occasional bridge that doesn't cost a lot as long as you remember to pay. And motorway tolls that you can bypass.

Going to Italy I go through several countries to save about €100 each way over the direct journey. Takes about 2 hours longer but is the more scenic route.

To do toll free would about double the journey time. And when driving for a day already........

Too right.

Last time I lost count of the countries I went in slightly/travelled through on the way to Italy. Even did Germany for about 10 minutes. But the bonus was fuel prices and tobacco was dirt cheap in Luxembourg.

Then it is best to have someone awake in the passenger seat for the toll booths if not linked to a card. But I enjoy waking the wife up

Then when Italy I normally go through a few hundred € just driving around.

Only if they already have a road tax. We do. We have 99.99% toll free roads.

How do we know what he would do though? He changes it to whatever he thinks people want to hear. I just don't trust the bloke. And that is not even considering the skeletons in the closet.

Saying that I can't even think of a single politician that I trust.

I believe you can pay a set fee and get unlimited travel on the Italian motorways, I will investigate to see if it’d be possible for you.

I mean those who will hold power. The SNP will only have a small say at best.

Yes there are MP's that do good. But I can't list them off the top of my head. I was on about high profile MP's. The career MP's. Not those who became an MP to make a difference to the man on the street.
