So thanks to NW you can't pretend you don't know.

But did you really think my daughter would call herself black when she isn't.

What it has proved to me is you won't listen whatever. So what is the use of trying to have a debate with someone who won't even listen on something as serious as racism?

Been avoiding this thread but yes, black is the generally considered acceptable term in Britain in the 21st century... as far as I was aware! Definitely not brown, can define by other ways, but not brown. Indian-Asian, Chinese-Asian etc... but not brown.

Or 'person of colour' is a current term to try and give a load of minorities a sense of some kind of power and influence, rather than making them small disparate groups.

Not brown though, not brown. Sorry mart, often have sympathy with your posts, and maybe being in Germany means you're behind the times and use of language in the UK (tbf I might be too, so apologies if I've got this wrong in 2018!). As a white Briton I'd be very reluctant to call someone brown.

Anyway, carry on! But how about you all get back to the EU rather than this digression, where you're all bound to fall out!

What are you on about now? There are various forms of foreign aid. It depends on how it is given and how it is controlled. Are you saying foreign aid to Africa will be used to buy tanks to invade us? Or to finance terrorism against us? Do you have examples? There are no doubt corrupt people who play the system, but that is not saying that aid overall is not helping stabilize regions. Terrorism is sponsored by our wealthy allies, they don’t need foreign aid.

Well somehow money flows into defence budgets while the population starves. Foreign aid helps maintain the people...while their coffers fund defence

The modern world!

Became the main term, then it was considered to possibly have racial undertones itself, so receded a little.

How to 'classify' race is a dangerous subject, so I'm just clarifying its my awareness of the UK at present. Not going to go any deeper than that, sure somebody will pop up and tell me I'm wrong!

There is the odd racist view turns up on this board but there are also some people I'm pretty sure are not racist, who either through age or whatever, use slightly racist terms (not talking this thread!).

Keeping up with the world and its language isn't always easy!

I'd say that's not really an acceptable term, unless we are all people of colour It could just be different things were/being acceptable to different generations though.

I tried to explain that it is black or white. Any other term can be seen as derogatory or even racist. Look at the replies Including your own.

Are you disagreeing that this thread has become an absolute joke?

Interestingly...blind people don't refer to the colour of anyone's skin, how good looking they are, their shape nor size. Doesn't seem to cause them any problems nor offend anyone.

It's a relatively modern term!

Meant to unify a load of disparate groups, allow them to stand with one another against racism. Because, after all, not every ethnic minority is, well... black, but brown became seen as a little bit dubious to use.

But then person of colour ended up being viewed by some as having possibly racist undertones and talking about coloureds.

So currently divides a little about whether it's appropriate or not.

Is saying a term can be seen as racist the same as suggesting somebody is racist?

tbf I've been hiding from this thread (can't imagine why ) so don't know the earlier tit for tat. Please don't fill me in, either

So where have I said that? I am sick of a few on here trying to twist my words.

So have I even said about trying to educate him on the terms he uses?

I suppose you think it would be better if I never said a word and just hope he didn't insult people inadvertently.

Can't blame you. All that happens is if someone doesn't agree with what you say they try to twist your words constantly. Then it ends up being about anything but what it should be.

Don't worry. SB accuses me of saying people are racist when I haven't. But he defends someone who has used racist terms and refuses to listen when told what he is saying. Work that one out.

Try again. You have admitted that it is a racist derogatory remark. Yet you make out that it is OK to use the term. Yet you won't explain why.

Did you think about the test I said about? Would you use it in front of a black man twice your size you didn't know?

If you wouldn't it is a term you shouldn't use at any time.

I’ve explained several times. You’ve even backed that up by supplying a link to confirm what I’ve said. Thanks again. Can’t say I’ve ever met a black man twice size but when used in the specific context I used it in i.e. not as a racist slur why wouldn’t I. Black people tend to be intelligent enough to understand the difference. Maybe you think less of black people than I do.

Just from on here, but I'd say that most of us on the forum are decent people even though we can disagree, would you not? I've only ever seen a handful of actual racist posts; based on his posting history Mart is not a racist.

There was once a conspiracy by a few posters that myself and @Grendel were the same person. How anyone could think I'd have such shocking music taste is beyond me.

Why don't you ask Tony. Because you both normally agree on everything. Or the other one shuts up and doesn't question what is said.

One of you makes out that they are racist. The other makes out as though it isn't. Yet not the slightest debate between the two of you on the subject. What a surprise.

Why are you making this about me and Mart? We don’t actually agree on everything and funnily enough when we don’t we’re mature enough to accept each other’s opinion without resorting to name calling. Happened just the other night on the common fisheries policy and much to Grendulls bemusement we agreed to disagree and move on. Grendull was most upset because he thought he was going to start a civil war of some sort. Divide and conquer and all that. Didn’t happen though.

It's well-known that lefty is a perjorative term here, used by a bunch of far righties.

Of course when people generalise in return, they spectacularly miss the point... just like a righty would.

Ok Gents this thread is getting silly now, getting absolutely no where. The leavers and remainers are never going to agree but to get to get some sort of perspective on all of this how about we all state 3 things why we should remain or leave then perhaps we can have a proper discussion.

I'm out. And out for good. They have their way.

No more proof is needed for me. You can't have a debate with people who want to twist everything you say. Even trying to help someone with words they use to describe other people gets changed to accusing someone of racism. And yet another stupid argument.

I have not been able to understand how you can be in full agreement on the basics with people but because of agendas never being able to agree because you see problems on both sides of the debate and others refuse to consider the problems of one side of it yet defend everything else to the point of having to admit a total bias.

I am not a 'leftie" and I am not a 'rightie'. I am straight down the middle. I am a lifelong Labour voter and union member. But there is nothing telling me to vote Labour. Luckily nobody else is worthwhile voting for.

Brexit is a sham. It was a vote that shouldn't have happened. And all because the Tories wanted to be voted in again more than anything else. Cameron is an idiot. The problem with the Tories is they use fear in just about every general election. And it normally works. They tried fear on Brexit. And stick with them because things would change in the EU. But Juncker didn't get the plans. He called Cameron out as a liar just a few days before the vote. So it went from an easy win to something too close to call. But it was 1st past the post.

Now we have a guaranteed shitfest whatever happens. If we pull out fully 48% won't be happy. Things could get hard for a couple of years or more. If we half stay in we could be worse off in every way than we are now. Same rules but less say. And if we stay in fully the shit will hit the fan. UKIP will most probably be reborn and could become the biggest party in the UK.

And nothing you say on here will change anything in the slightest.

Those who want to remain are in charge of leaving. Those who want to leave (Not the idiot Farage) make out they want to remain. Does anyone see a problem here?

So who will suffer? Of course it is us. No matter what happens. We will either be ruled by the EU who don't care about us or a British government who also don't care about us. They are nearly all in it for what they can get out of it. And we are always left to suffer the consequences.

8,9%. I said percentage points. The numbers are low which means that a different of 3,6 percentage points means 31,2 % if AfD are12,5%. Not 50%. Something is wrong with your maths. Compared to the voting population they had between under 2 to 3,5 percentage points difference which is not much. AfD, FDP, Die Linke and Die Grünen are 4 parties with a similar percentage of the vote - I think 4 can be termed „several“.

It started when I said that some people don’t like „brown people“. ( Referring to us maybe getting Indian migrants instead of EU migrants). I put it in parentheses because that was their ( The sort of people who vote BNP ) term not mine. I was referring to the comments made by e.g. the BNP. As an example they say that you should not class all „brown people“ as Muslims. You then went on a rant that I was being racist by quoting an example of racism. That was a while ago. You then started referring to black people as black people. I asked what was the difference between calling black people black and brown people brown people. NW politely explained it without going on a rant. It is quite easy to have a debate without going on a rant.
