And not the fault of those who paid into it. It is one rule for the government and another rule for everyone else. If the money paid in had actually gone somewhere it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad. But now they blame it on budgets.

Let's start with the Saville case and go after the rich and the powerful who were associated with him at the time. I can't believe so many are naive enough to think none of them knew.

It’s called balance. We wouldn’t want anyone thinking that only immigrants are capable of such atrocities would we.

Lets start with those that are doing it now and try and stop more children from getting damaged for life. Lets forget about religion or race and get the bastards. Not bothered if they are Catholic or Muslim. Tougher sentencing is needed. 2 strikes jailed for life. And life to mean life. The human rights of the victims should come before the scum

I'm not sure what you expect to achieve, you were the only one to bring in race to the debate. I mentioned those in power who knew, MP's, Police, Social Workers, highly likely they were mostly all white males I would have thought.

It doesn't matter, if you are rich, poor, black, white, muslim, christian or anything inbetween, If you abuse a child or knowingly allow it continue, then you should feel the full force of the law. As I mentioned earlier, I would seriously consider bringing back the death penalty.

Sounds like the government has now conceded on the Irish border as well. So much for the UK have a stronger hand and the upperhand in all of this.

if that's the case then I have to give May credit for not giving in to the 2 or 3 dozen multi millionaire hardliners in her party who quite clearly couldn't give a fuck about the rest of us and would quite happily pursue policies which would cause real hardship for whole swathes of the country.

TUV talking about the deal on the Irish border being a "a stepping stone to a united Ireland" and talking of NI remaining in the EU. Surely that's just wishful thinking on his part.

Although good news for Ireland and means talks can now progress to the next stage is nobody worried that the EU is getting exactly what it wants. Looks to me as though have no bargaining power and their insistence that nobody can have a better deal as an outsider than a member will come to pass and we'll be all the worse off for it.

It was always going to happen. Imagine what is going to happen once we are outside and trying to forge trade deals with countries like the USA and China.

which is partly why I voted remain.
If you think this represents not having any bargaining power wait until we start trying to get a deal with the US.

Some of the comments online are brilliant.

One guy suggested that this will result in united Ireland which will then domino into Scottish and Welsh independence. London will then build a wall around the M25 and declare itself independent and all will re join the EU. This will result in them becoming ghettos and weirdly "suburbs of Brussels" while England will become rich from all its new trade deals (presumably selling scones). The newly independent countries and London will then ask to re join England but will be told no as it won't be in our best interest to have these lefty types ruining our paradise.

Another said I don't know why we don't just stick a hard border up as it never caused any problems in Ireland before

Also several Daily Mail commenters have announced they will now vote for Corbyn because of this.

Its a strange and thrilling experience visiting corners of the internet you're not accustomed to.

If brexit negotiations are anything to go by we’ll get our backsides well and truly spanked.

Yup. My dislike of Conservatism is tempered by the fact that May is at least (relatively!) moderate, and (reasonably!) keen to do her best by the country, rather than her paymasters.

Flexibility is a good thing, intransigence rather less.

First of all will be the end of the UK as we know it. N.I. could well be on it’s way. We are soon not to be in a trading bloc and not involved in a European Defence Force.

Our influence in the world is evaporating.

I think those are pretty big changes.

Just heard that lunatic Arlene Foster on the radio. "No border in the Irish Sea" - is she really ignoring the specific issues that face Northern Ireland? If she wants no physical border with Westminster, why don't she and her ilk move back to Scotland where they ultimately belong!

I'm not sure we will be any the worse off at all, but if things continue like they are then not a lot will have changed apart from a load of uncertainty for a couple of years.

Oh dear Mart, where have you been for the last 70 years ?! Our influence on the world has been diminishing ever since WW2...........What was worrying more of us was the worlds influence on us now !!
The European Defence force..............don't make me laugh, have you seen the relative strength of the Russian military against the Europeans, if Putin fancied having a dance in Paris anytime soon in terms of conventional forces he could probably be in by New Year to see the fireworks !

You could ask the same of anyone who voted brexit.

The rest of your post is tantamount to a racist if you don’t like it piss of back to your own country rant.

It isn't racism you idiot, it was a facetious comment about the motivations of Ms Foster.

I suspect that in her head, the notion of having an equivalent regulatory regime to that of Dublin (as in the EU) is abhorrent as it almost gives some sense of a united Ireland. So even if it is against the best interests of the people of N.I. she would vote against it.

“why don't she and her ilk move back to Scotland where they ultimately belong!” is racist not facetious.

You may as well said if the Catholics don’t like it they can fuck of to the free state, Northern Ireland is having the same brexit deal as the rest of the U.K. and that means a hard border with the south. It would be the same difference.

You’re ignorance that her and her ilk are from Scotland is wholly inaccurate and insulting on so many levels I don’t even know where to begin.

Foster is an English name. Oh that’s not her maiden name you might say. You’re right, her maiden name is Kelly. Wholly Irish and predominantly Catholic which can only really lead you to one conclusion. Her family converted to the Protestant faith and most likely during the potato famine to receive the kings shilling as it was known. She’s as Irish as they come, Scotland has nothing to do with her unless her family left Ireland to return at some point later. In which case she’s still as Irish as they come, Northern Irish but still from the Ireland. What you’ve done is the equivalent of telling someone of Indian heritage and their ilk to move back to Pakistan. It’s ignorance of the highest level.

You then bring hard brexit into it as if you somehow understand where she is coming from. You don’t. She needs a hard brexit. The face of Northern Ireland is changing, the Catholic faith has caught up the Protestant faith in terms of numbers and set to pass and now you have the scenario where a large portion of the Protestant faith especially in the border counties like Fermanagh where she is from rely on the south for trade and work would rather see a united Ireland than lose their livelihood which is what a hard brexit with a border in Ireland could do. She won’t accept a border with the rest of the U.K. because she knows ultimately where that is going, so she’s fighting to remain British. Regardless of the costs. She knows the feeling on the ground, she’s not stupid. Especially the feeling in her own constituency and she’s fighting to save her identity.

Defining people by their so called religion is ridiculous in an age when church attending Christian numbers are crumbling and have been for decades. It's just another way of putting up an imaginary wall and something Cunty politicians can use for division to their own ends !

That’s Northern Ireland I’m afraid. Identity is at the centre of everything to a very large portion of the population regardless of what they call themselves. As we’re about to find out. I say we’re but personally I always knew and it was one of the major reasons I voted remain, I could see the trouble it’s going to cause in Northern Ireland and it’s with no pleasure (given it’s my family who are going to be effected by this) my fears are looking to not be misplaced.

Reading this UK and EU fail to strike Brexit talks deal really shows what a mess we’re in over brexit. The only sensible way forward to me would be a second referendum on the type of brexit we have with a simple in out of the single market, customs union and everything else that goes with it. This has been the problem since day one. The government never received a mandate from anyone on what brexit means. It’s starting to get beyond stupid now and I can’t believe anyone voted for this.

So most are happy that a middle ground is being found. Yet Tony the Tory is looking for something to moan about.

You are not the only one with Irish roots. Coventry has always been multicultural. But is was less noticeable in years gone by as most were from Ireland and Scotland where you couldn't tell just by looking at people walking past.

Didn't Tony vote Labour at the last election after reading the manifestos? I'm sure you were recently complaining about people attacking each other as well, yet are now attempting to insult someone with the lowest insult of them all.

I reckon the whole thing today has been for show and is May's way of looking like she has won some hard fought battles, but ultimately NI will remain within the customs union. It's both sides way of working together and selling it without looking like the UK has rolled over and preventing the government and a deal collapsing.
